My four month old puppy has just started not eating properly, he's otherwise helathy and playful, the vet just had to empty his anal glands but that's it, he's been wormed and so on regularly. I feed him on Hills complete food, which I have done from the beginning, he used to wolf it down, now he's not interested. I've tried varying the flavours of the Hills, mixing in some cooked chicken and adding gravy. He will pick at it eventually if I leave it long enough, I know you're not supposed to leave it down but I worry about him not eating. Sometimes I even hand feed it to him! anyone any ideas??

It is possible that your puppy has a slight cold. Gods dont like to eat what they cant smell. Is he a bit snuffly at the moment?

Before i got my 2nd dog i used to leave my 4yr old bitches food down, she would then pick at it throughout the day. Your doing the right thing of adding gravy/cooked chicken to his food to flavour it, but dont change his food!! Many people make this mistake, thinking there dog wont eat, this results in the dog becoming fussy and not eating anything you put down. Dont hand feed him either, the best thing you can do is just leave him. He will eat when he is hungry enough. How many meals is he being fed a day? At 4 months i cut my dogs down to 2 meals a day, some people prefer keeping there dogs on 3 meals a day untill there about 6 months but really there isn't much point. If you do remove his bowl after a certain time and it's untouched, then at his next meal time he should be hungry enough to eat. Good luck.

Try feeding him only 3 times a day.
he may figure if it's down all the time he acn pick .
I use to have the same problem but shortly after giving teh meals instead of constant feeding she would eat and it was much easier to ottytrain knowing when to let her out.
Don't give in and give her anything else or she will wait for teh specials.
Good Luck if it doesn't help by friday you may want to take her back to teh vets to be sure everything is ok.

He may be teething & eating dry food is painful. Soak the food in warm water from the kettle. When it is completely soft you can give it to him.If he eats it you will know that is the problem.I soak my puppies food until they are 6 months & have finished teething. If that doesn't work he may have worms.Consult your vet
in that case.

My dog trainer would say "throw away his bowl and hand feed him" she said this is the best way possible to earn respect from your dog as they know they have to rely on you for food and in their life that is all they need you for. Hand feeding makes food seem more exciting to them.
