This is what I always ask.

I think it could be because they will get the answer they want-one they agree with-that Islam is evil and violent, etc. We've heard it all before.

Maybe it's because they don't know any Muslims and don't know who to ask. I'd guess a good many of them are well-intentioned.

I'm a Christian who didn't take a non-Muslim's word for it.

Luke 6:39 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?

Non Muslims also hear lies and false information about Islam from Muslims. For instance all those silly stories about the superior science in the Koran. Muslims seem to have trouble being objective (some of them, maybe you are not so afflicted).

Non Muslims hear lies and false information about Islam from other non Muslims, that's why they think it's bad. It is best to get the right facts if you want to find out about something that you don't know much about.

Probably for objectivity and straight talk about it. IMO, Muslims are not critical enough of their own co-religionists who do bad things in the name of Islam.

Muslims have a great need for a modern-day theologan of some type that can reform their religion without compromising their values.

Everyone should be free to worship as they please. No force. One of the things about Islam that I think is bad is that if someone wants to convert from Islam to Christianity, they are according to Islam, to be killed. This is just plain flat out wrong. If Islam cannot make it without resorting to that, it shows that it is a phenomenon of man, and not of God.

I agree, surely it would be appropriate to contact a muslim who understands and follows Islam if you want a answer regarding the faith.

Like amiram says, a Muslim is not necessarily the most objective source of information about Islam.

The case of two parties is like that of the blind and deaf, and the seeing and the hearing. Is the case of the two alike? Will you not then understand?

And he whom Allah guides, is the only one rightly guided; but as for those whom He leaves to go astray, thou wilt find for them no helpers beside Him. And on the Day of Resurrection We shall gather them together on their faces blind, dumb and deaf. Their abode shall be Hell; every time it abates, We shall increase for them the flame.
