Yes, it's possible that this could be a pulled muscle. Another possibility for this pain is something called costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartilage around the ribcage and when it causes chest pain it can cause some to think they are having a heart attack.

The only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your dr to have them evaluate the situation further.

always worth checking with a doc incase it's an infection, but it sounds a little like what I had a while ago,
one of my ribs somehow jumped out of position, it was actually pretty painful when it first happened, but for the following days I had a pain in the chest/back that made the other muscles tense up, I could feel it more when I took deep breaths.
I saw an osteopath who helped pop it back into place, as soon as it was done the main tension was gone, it took another day or so just for it to settle down tho.
I may be entirely wrong, but thats what happened to me.

as I say get it checked to make sure it's not an infection or anything tho

If you have done any workouts, exercise, or weight lifing just prior, it could be a pulled muscle. A moist hot compress wrapped in a towel should help the mucsle relax. 200mg Ibuprophen as directed will help reduce muscle swelling and pain. And increase fluid intake will help flush out the lactic acid produced in muscle injury. I would try this for about a week and if your still in pain go to the doctor as this may be a more serious condiction.

You may have pulled a muscle, but I'd go get it checked by your doctor.
