That is one of the indications that all religions are bull. The presence of God cannot be validated on some spurious level by attributing to Him a successful endeavor that was actually purely the result of someone's hard work.
The implication of God helping those who help themselves: If I sit on my *** and do nothing all day, nothing positive is going to happen in my life, i.e. God isn't going to help me out. However if I get off my *** and make an effort to realize my dreams, some kind of divine hand will move my effort along. Does anyone not see that that will happen regardless of whether God exists or not? If I work hard, I reap rewards. Whether God was the bringer of these rewards, or if it was purely my own hard work, is something that cannot be positively proven, one way or the other.

Actually the God of the Bible, the only true God, is Helper of the helpless; He proved this by dying on the cross. By so doing, He opened the way to heaven, which man is incapable of doing. But they must accept Christ as their God, Lord and Saviour to benefit from this sacrifice.
The nearest the Bible comes to saying that 'God helps those who help themselves' is in 2 Thess. 3:10:
'For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.' (KJV).
I had an argument over this word with a socialist church minister, who gave a desultory laugh, not unlike Ms Crabapple's, when I quoted it.
"What's wrong with it?" I asked
"What about people in wheelchairs, or too ill to work?" she replied.
"It says WOULD not, not COULD not! Every time someone who refuses to work is given food & shelter, they take the opportunity away from those in genuine need."
It should therefore be clear that to interpret it as God helping the selfish is to completely misunderstand it: we work in order to earn, and to give what we can to the helpless; George Muller was an exemplar of this.
This also explains why the Welfare State in Britain is such a travesty: drunken women get abortions on the NHS, because they were too drunk to either say no, or to remember to use contraception, whereas people suffering the early onset of Alzheimer's are denied tablets, costing just £2.50 a day, because there's not enough cash in the NHS. Likewise pensioners are unable to afford Council tax and/or heating, so they die of hypothermia, while drunken, drugged-up bums STILL get their dole. Indeed, in any socialist 'paradise', those who work are penalised by high taxation, while those who don't are happy to live on handouts.
I hope Britain comes to her senses, repents, and again seeks the Lord Jesus Christ; and works like our ancestors who won WWII did.

The point they are making is that you have a certain amount of God given ability and you must use all of it before asking for help. You can't just sit on the couch and pray for a good job. You have to get educated and actively search for the job. You have to deal with frustration and failure but keep plugging away.

The idea here is not that a person has to do everything on his/her own but the person is to do what they can and God will do the rest. We are not suppose to just sit on our behinds and wait for God to act. God acts as we go about our lives doing the things we need to do.

Because logic tells you if you help yourselves then you probably won't need help from anyone else. Plus its a good way to give people a kick up the bottom when they are spending time waiting for someone else to solve there problems.

God lie within every being. God helps everyone to help himself to move on the path of knowing self.
In happy and arrogant life, at times humans lose track of their goal of life. When people donot listen to their inner voice for birth after birth.
Then God puts them in misery to help them back on the correct track of life.
Misery is nothing but compassion of god to put such people back on that track.
However It doesnot increase or decrease the greatness of God

That is a misnomer. Nowhere in Biblical scripture does it say "God helps those who help themselves." On the contrary.....
Proverbs 3: 5-6
" Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and he will make your paths straight."
