Going to a shop helps the best. The stand over height on a mtn. bike is important for handling and safely bailing out. Compared to a road bike, you will want a bit more stand over clearance. I am 6' tall, but I am proportioned with long legs and a shorter upper body. I have three mtn. bikes. One has front suspension and it is a 19". Another is full suspension and is a 20". The last one I use for commuting, and it is a 21". They all may be close in size, and each manufacturer measures a bit differently. The key is definitely get to a shop to get measured. To start with, by your height, you will be looking at a large, or 19-20, as was mentioned above. Good luck.

There are several things beside height to decide on the proper fit on a bike. Probably a L for full suspension or 19" or 20", but you would need to test them before deciding.

As in clothes, not all brands have their sizes identical. You might be a L in one, but M in another or XL in yet another.

The correct size depends on several factors based on your physical build. Do you have a short torso and long legs, short legs and long torso, or perhaps just an average build? Go to your local bike shop and get fitted. If they have demo bikes take one for a ride. If they only allow you a quick ride around a parking lot, be careful, a lot of bikes feel good on a quick ride around a parking lot, but can feel too large or small when you get out on a trail.
