Well - Look at the regions specifically!
South Asia has a couple of major religions in common, is economically similar and in some ways, ethnically similar
East Asia is ethnically similar, economically similar, and less religious than other sections.
Central Asia is so incredibly different from any other part of Asia that it must be separated to make sense. It's primilarily Muslim, historically nomadic, and formerly part of the U.S.S.R.
Lastly, the Middle East is technically Asia, but so different that it's rarely even called that!

Asia is divided into several regions simply because it is too large a continent to be taken literally as a whole. Different peoples with different customs, histories, religion, and languages live in the various parts of Asia, so that would be a neat and efficient system of classifying people into.
Imagine if you don't classify Asians, there are some Asians who would look European (e.g., Turkish), some Asians who would look Pacific Islander (e.g., Indonesian), some Asians who would look like your typical East Asian (e.g., Chinese), and some Asians who can pass off as Africans (e.g., Yemenites).
They classified in order to map out distintly different areas to prevent confusion on the matter:
Here is the general consensus:
WEST ASIA (Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Sinai peninsula of Egypt, West Bank and Gaza strip, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Yemen, Oman and Kuwait.
NORTH ASIA (Siberian part of Russia)
CENTRAL ASIA (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyztan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan)
EAST ASIA (China, Mongolia, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Taiwan)
SOUTH ASIA (Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, and Bhutan)
MAINLAND SOUTHEAST ASIA (Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia)
MARITIME SOUTHEAST ASIA OR PACIFIC SOUTHEAST ASIA (Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippine Islands, East Timor)
Geographical formulas:
EAST INDIES = Indonesia + the Philippines + Timor Leste
GREATER INDIA, UNDIVIDED INDIA = South Asia + entire Southeast Asia
GREATER ASIA = Typical Asia + Australia
AUSTRONESIA = Maritime Southeast Asia + Madagascar
EURASIA = Asia + Europe + Asia
EURAFRASIA = Europe + Africa + Asia
EURAUSTRALAFRASIA = Europe + Afirca + Asia + Australia

No reasons to divide, maybe if we are still with the Roman Empire Era, then maybe we can divide Asia.

The groupings actually reflect common interest, goal, trade, culture, idealism etc. If you look at them, they make sense as the countries in the groupings are bounded geographically and culturally.
