There is a paradox because the person who wrote the verse you quoted was not Jesus Christ. He was talking about something he knew nothing about, so how can we expect it to be anything other than contradictory?
God is omnipresent, all-pervasive, and all-encompassing. If there is a place, God is present. The apostles and disciples can speculate, but if there is a contradiction, what is the use of their speculation?
This is like the Satan contradiction. Supposedly, Satan will be destroyed, but the sinners will live in hell, tormented and in pain. And who is going to govern hell? Satan. How can God destroy him, and then give him a position of authority? If sinners "die", then how can they be alive to suffer for eternity?
God is present everywhere. Hellish conditions are existing here on earth, and God is present. If there is a place with even more misery and suffering, then God is also present there.

Omnipresent means he is capable of being everywhere in the universe at the same time, It does not mean he is in hell. God created Hell specifically for satan and his angels and to include the followers of satan. God does not choose to be in hell. One of the many things which makes hell a place of torment is "separation from God" because God is LOVE [the very source of Love] apart from God there is no real love. Have you ever, even for one minute, felt no one in the world loves you? Then you have experienced one moment of what separation from God will feel like. There are also many other aspects of "torment" of hell, but you only asked about God being in hell. God NOT BEING in HELL is NOT a contradiction but your choice of interpretation of the Bible or/and what some Christians may say. Of this one thing you can be sure, If you end up in hell, God will not be there with you!

God is Energy.
Energy exists every where in the universe.
It exists in many forms (heat, sound, electricity.. etc.) including matter. (scientifically proved)
Therefore God is Everywhere that is to say Omnipresent.
everything we see is matter(nature).
(matter being a form of energy - God )
Therefore god is everything that is visible and invisible to the naked eye.
The atomic explosions in Hiroshima and Nagasaki created heated talks among people of this world.
Those who were severely scared by the blasts screamed and cried shouting slogans having unable to bear with the agony saying that what they are experiencing is HELL!!!.
While in some resort island a family enjoys a quiet afternoon talking, joking, playing and observing natures beauty saying "this experience is LIFE, this is HEAVEN!!!!".
HEAVEN and HELL are both the works of energy due to the state in which one's mind is.
That is to say God works according to one's mind.
GOD is the positive energy that created heaven for a positive mind.
And the negative energy that created hell for a negative mind.
Even the creation of hell (atom bomb) can come from a positive mind (Einstein). vice versa.

First, show me in the scriptures where it states that Hell is absolute separation from God. (Save yourself some time, I know it's not in there. It's a man-made doctrine not a scriptural one.)
Secondly, Hell was created by God because it was God that cast Lucifer to the place we know of as Hades.
"How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit." (Isaiah 14:12-15)
So, yes indeed, God is in control and present over all dominions both spiritual and physical, including Hell itself.
Excellent question by the way.

Hell does not exist at the moment. Nobody has gone to Hell.Every person who has ever lived has yet to be judged. So God is not in Hell.Heaven is not yet complete also.

There is no hell. Separation is illusion. We cannot be separated from our Source...but we can dream so...
