Microprocessors have not completey replaced integrated circuits, and by "integrated circuits" I assume you mean small and medium-scale integration types, because a microprocessor *is* an integrated circuit.

There is still a need for large-scale integration. There are still several "integrated circuits" on any computer motherboard that are needed to support the processor. Bridge ICs, Video ICs, and memory controller ICs are all large-scale ICs that support the processor.

FPGAs and ASICs are ICs that are necessary for some devices. FPGAs can contain whole microprocessors *inside* the FPGA or ASIC (along with many other functions).

So, what's in the future? Photonic crystal technology, bio-silicon neural nets, quantum computing are just a few.
