Well, to begin with there is one thing that you need to understand. All Catholics are Christians (believe Jesus was God) but not all Christians are Catholic. Baptists are Christian, but they are a protestant sect, while Catholics are Christian but not protestant. Basically, Christianity is divided into Protestants such as Baptists, Lutherans, etc and then there are Catholics.
Here are a few differences:
Baptists tend to believe in salvation through faith alone, whereas Catholics believe in salvation through faith AND works.
Baptists tend to take the Bible literally, whereas Catholics are more concerned with the intended meaning of the text, not the literal story.
Catholics believe the Pope is Peter's successor and is the "visible head of the Church" while Baptists do not.
Catholics believe that through a miracle called "transubstantiation" that the eucharist is truly Christ's body and blood, while Baptists believe it is only a symbol.
Those are just a few examples of the differences between Baptists and Catholics

both are Christian...the catholic church accepts the authority of the pope, baptists recognize only the authority of God
...baptists believe, contrary to mr CPU's misinformation, that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the living God, and is the head of our church...where he got this 'baptists believe that Jesus was just a man' is beyond me...basically, baptists don't believe that mary is the mother of God, that praying to/thru mary and the 'saints' is a quaint, but non-scriptural custom, that the relationship man can have with God is a personal one, not bound by arbitrary man-made rules, rituals, and human intervention (confession booths, reciting 'our fathers/hail mary's') we're not as orderly, either...and the membership of each congregation has a lot more say over the running of the church than in the catholic church

Nothing both are a denomination! Both having a bunch of rules and regulations thought up by men and women of Belief. Remember I said belief and not faith. Every man and woman is given a measure but it has to be developed. Romans 12:3.

There are many Christian denominations that believe similar, but different things. The Baptists do not believe that the Pope is the authority of the Church, and I don't think they believe the Eucharist is Jesus' body and blood, like the Catholics do.
Don't listen to Alice..it's a common misconception that Catholics "worship" Mary, but we do not worship anything/anyone but God the Father. We pray to Mary and the saints, but that's different.

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.
http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_31101999_cath-luth-joint-declaration_en.html
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
With love in Christ.

baptists are one of many dominations collectively known as protestants. Although this is the extremely brief version, bottomline is that some felt that the catholic church had strayed from the true path and and got away from certain catholic practices like having a pope and and certain ceremonies. they use a slightly different variation of bible. overall the differences to a non-christian are not that great

Catholics seek guidance from the pope. We don't worship him. When new things like cloning and eptopic pregnancies enter the world it';s the pope's job to help Catholics understand how things like that fit or don't fit into our religion using basic scripture.
We don't worship MAry, we honor her as Jesus' mother. We are a family. God is our father and Mary our mother. Do you think it would irritate Jesus if we loved his mother? HE performed his first miracle for her and while dying on the cross made sure she was going to be taken care of. She's God's daughter. If someone loved you daughter wouldn't that make YOU feel good.
Catholics baptise babies as a open gesture that they will raise the child Catholic until the child is old enough to decide for himself what he wants. If they want to continue on their own, they get confirmed.
