i currently have one semester left to get my Bachelor Degree and was thinking about joining the Navy.
The path i want to take is to become an Officer in the Navy. i was thinking about OCS, i know its difficult and not everyone graduates. so i have two questions......
1) since i know Farsi, how can i use this to my advantage when going for OCS?
2) if i do not get in, i was thinking about enlisting in regular service and working my way up. question would be would i start out with an higher rank with a Bachelor Degree?

any answer would be helpful, thanks.

I agree with the first answer here. But there are other things to take into account. First of all, what is your GPA. To be competitive you need at least a 3.5, What is your degree going to be in? Speaking Farsi will be a great help to you. As an enlisted person you will automatically be an E-3 with your Bachelor's, Also the number of credit hours you have can increase any signing bonus you may receive.

On your first question, if you know Farsi, you could perhaps use that to your advantage if you wanted to be a cryptologist. As a cryptologist you'd be a restricted line officer, and would only work within the cryptology/intelligence community. On the second question, I know you'd not enter as an E-1 with at Bachelors Degree, but am not sure whether you'd enter as and E-2 or E-3. A recruiter should be able to help you out on that question.

Officers, as a rule do NOT use language in their daily work. the Officer community that deals directly with Linguists is Information Warfare( what Cryptology is now called), and to a lesser extent, Intel. Any other Community won't see the need for Farsi. at most, it gives you a leg up on other candidates without language skills.

a 4 year degree will net you e3 upon enlistment.

In addition to Manderz I might upload that if you're watching longer term SWO is mostly extra compatible for a profession. The SWO's are some distance much more likely to upward thrust in rank quicker, have positions of result, attend the Naval War College, and ultimately command ships. All that stated, if neither of the ones choices fit your needs, then preserve out. The Navy demands well officials, and it's the recruiters process to fill probably the most wanted slots so he'll clearly push you closer to the ones positions. But if you're sufferer and protracted then look ahead to the billet you desire and you are going to undoubtedly get it.
