If they did that it wouldn't take NASCAR long to reach the poularity of INDY racing. They would end up with the same amount of cars as that and F1 in a year or 2 also. Then no one would go to the races, just like those series.

There is cheating then there is CHEATING. I am not a Gordon fan (Tony's my driver) but, what happened really isn't that far out of the ordinary. This is the first year with the COT's and with that is a whole new rule book to abide by. Every other professional sports player cheats in some way wether it is exaggerating a foul or taking banned substances. I think an appropriate penalty would be more effective if it effected the final 10 races. Wouldn't 100 driver points hurt a lot more going into the chase?? And, if you don't make the chase then do you really care about points?

no way. if you start throwing teams out for 2 years whom are you really hurting. The race fans and then Nascar as the operating body. They would lose so much money and they don't want to go back to the old days when there was no t.v. exposure. So i think your idea would be the worst thing nascar could do.
Maybe something that would work is 100 ponits driver/owner. $100,000 and maybe suspened the team for the weekend if it is caught on friday. If it is after the race then suspend them for the next week. The team could get a replacement driver and Crew Chief, but the driver would have to Qualifiy on time and not on owner points. That might make teams change there tone.

First, the drivers and owners are not mechanics, don't prepare the car, don't know the car, don't examine the car themselves checking that each bolt is tight etc. They just race what the crew gives them and makes complaints that the crew tries to remedy. The owner really just provides the money and management and is alos not building the cars himself.
Second, the infractions have not been so egregious to be seriously upsetting competition in the sport. So there is not need to kick people out like that. If they wanted to have completely identical cars then they would set it up like the old IROC was. Drivers randomly picked a car before each race.

That is NOT the way it goes!!!!! If you start cheating now they will do the same thing they did to gordon and johnson a yesterday and stewert a week ago you will just get put back 100 points and the crew chief can not go to the next 6 races. you will never get kicked out for 2 years and plus that would be bad because if every body cheated then you have nobody to race the races.

Are you even a NASCAR fan? How could you possibly want to take the chance that your favorite driver could be banned from racing for two years? Sure, it was Jeff and Jimmie that misunderstood the rules this time, but Dale Jr.'s crew did it earlier. How would the racing community respond to two of NASCAR's best drivers and it's most popular driver being kicked out and not allowed to race for two years? Not well, I would think.

Some people are really worried about cheating... Do you live your life this way? If you pay 10 bucks for something thats supposed to be 40 do you stop them? If you found money on the ground would you pick it up? How often do you people cheat on your taxes... I am sure you have done some bad things on your life... Just relax!
If your really upset take it up with MLB not Nascar. Bonds is going to break the all time home run record because of steroids!!!

Nope....rediculous. Until NASCAR can completely cut out all gray areas that would be rediculous. I think they were harsher on the 24 and 48 than anyone this year. The "After" penalties were fine and completely inline with the others earlier this year but lets not forget they were told they couldnt qualify on Friday or practice either......

The "death penelty" is not an option in this line of thought.
The events for a death penelty would have to be more serious than altering a body or tweeking a rule.
The logic is understandable but not realistic.
Now a race suspention could work in theory. But it would have to be done at time of infraction to be effective.
For the teams with more than 1 car it would only affect the car with the violation.

Lets see if you say that when your Team eventually gets caught; because every Team has been caught at one time or another. So enjoy you piaty and self-rightousness for now; because one day you will have to answer for why your Team got caught cheating.
