Okay, I broke up with my ex about a month ago. The night we broke up, he threatened to kill himself. I asked him if he was serious or not and he didn't respond. So I called 911. He got mad, because the cops came over and was angry at me for calling. Anyways, I talked to another ex of mine, and he said that men do this all the time and never mean it. His mother has had exes that do this to her a lot. Is that true that a lot of men do this? And if they do, why do they do this? I mean, just because we don't want to date you doesn't mean we want you dead! It's a really awful thing to do to someone.

Two words... GUILT TRIP. I have known many people to play that card when a relationship has ended. Men or women. It is just a last resort to try to get that person to stay I guess. And it works for a lot of people. You did the right thing by calling 911, maybe he will learn a lesson from that. And this may not be 100% true but I have known people that have commited suicide and people that have threatened to, and the friends of mine that ended up taking their own lives never told anyone, ever. The ones that have threatened are normally just wanting attention.

This isn't normal behavior. It's very, very manipulative behavior. If a guy does this, he is purposefully trying to make you feel bad and manipulate you to get back together with him. That is wrong. You did the right thing by calling 911. You didn't have any way of knowing if he was serious. You couldn't control the situation, so you got someone that could help. That is the right thing to do, and I commend you for that. It's not true that alot of men do this. The ones that do are sick in the head.

I don't think alot of men do this. Sometimes some men do say this because they are trying to play on your emotions and keep you around longer in hopes of you feeling sorry for them and change your mind about breaking up.It's kinda like the woman (or girl) who says they are pregnant; when they aren't, so that the guy won't leave them. It just is a desperate immature trick. Don't let him pull you in with this , if he continues to tell you this then tell him to leave you alone or you will go to his family with this and if that doesn't stop him tell him you will go to the police.

Ok, there are some guys that do. Not sure on statistics. But, I guess they see it as maybe a sympathy plee and perhaps you'll come running back to them. I imagine though, that there are perhaps a few that do actually mean it when they say it. What can I say, there are some guys out there that do a marvelous job at making us all look like jackasses.

Well, there are plenty explanations of this. One of the reasons for this could be that he thinks that he would be depressed without you and he does not want to feel that way, so, he probably thinks the best way out of this situation is to take his life. Another reason, possibly the best explanation for this behavior, might be that he wants attention.

um wow...i never really have had that instance happen to me so i don't know how to answer..but i'll try...I would say that its not that men do this..I think that its just that men are more emotional than they seem to show...their emotion is more drastic....and strong. Just be careful how you handle situations in the future.

suicide is an attention getter and if u play that card you are way too desparate to be in a serious relationship with that person. It also makes u lose trust in that person.
