I have modified my behavior in the short time I have been on YAHOO Q&A to try to answer questions that I really feel I have something to add, even if it is an attempt at humor. I have tried to curb my sometimes caustic tongue, and enjoy thoughtful questions and answers. I also love a good laugh. I am trying to resist the cutting barbs that are usually not very funny anyhow.

Thank you for your answers, even those who are too cynical to believe I am asking this question with a heart to listen. I am seeking an honest response, and have not mocked any but the intolerant and the racist for some time. I sunk to their level in the past, and publicly apologized. I ask for nothing that I am not willing to give.

I am guilty of the same activity Eagle Woman. It is, at times, difficult not to give a smarty cat answer.
I have a tendency to give answers in relation to the type of question. If I feel that the asker is clowning around then I tend to clown back. If they are here to attack, then i can be offensive also, in return.
I believe there is an elemint of intertainmint here !

I was originally drawn into the R&S section by questions about atheism. Since I came to atheism entirely on my own and haven't really discussed it with anyone before my participation here, I wasn't sure whether my take on it was unique or run-of-the-mill.
The forum has provided several useful functions for me. It's good to have a sounding board with so many voices in it--it's like the difference between a piano and a ukulele. I wondered to how much I had in common with other atheists, and I have been able to get a sense of that. And my writing here has helped me to focus and clearly define my point of view.
As for growing spiritually, let me put it this way: When I was young, I didn't worry about growing tall. It just happened. Nor did I worry much about my intellectual growth, and the seems to have happened, too, despite my lack of formal education. I certainly never intended to become wise, but that, too, seems to be following a process that requires only that I continue to move through my days with my eyes wide open. Likewise, spiritual growth seems to occur whether I will it or not, and that which nourishes that growth is ever-present and comes from the most surprising places, including this forum.
I've come the long way round the bend to do it, but I do believe that I've answered your question.

What??? I can't do both? ; )
I, personally, am here to grow...maybe not as you would define 'spiritually', but to grow, nonetheless.
But, I'm also here to have fun. The only people I "mock" are the "Bullwinkles" that write as though they "know-it-all" and/or condemn / defend entire groups as if one issue makes all of that select group unworthy or worthy of some form of respect. I don't play favorites...I mock each side equally as neither "side" is any better than the other...the only differences are in what they choose to believe. I am far from perfect myself, but those that express some form of superiority over another person or group based on a belief, deserve the same respect they (don't) show to others...and I do it without calling them names, or hanging labels on them or their beliefs.
No, it doesn't make me better than them, just different.

“Whenever people are certain they understand our peculiar situation here on this planet, it is because they have accepted a religious Faith or a secular Ideology (Ideologies are the modern form of Faiths) and just stopped thinking.”
In my own small way I try to shake the pillars of your faith and let you see what falls out. My mind is open to all ways to grow spiritually but I can't help but question ways to stagnate spiritually. The only thing I can't tolerate is intolerance. The only people I hate are bigots.
"They [the clergy] believe that any portion of power confided to me, will be exerted in opposition to their schemes. And they believe rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. "

If you are referring to religious (supernatural believes) I don't think mocking will do any good.. but what do you expect?
Tolerance in the face of irrationality? Sarcasm is just a natural response.

Well ive always been christian and never plan to change that. HOWEVER i'm very interested in what others believe......religions are top on my list. i also never put down someone for what they believe or how they live their life. i respect them for it and never push my religion on them......that being said I do believe in God and I do believe in a judgment day.....I'm not the one ppl have to answer to, so its not my place to redicule someones beliefs:)
