Well..the rapist was a caucasian man, back in 1957 so he wasn't charged with anything. All I know is that he owned a business. My grandmother was a black woman...so you know how that situation would have played out...back in those times.

A delicate subject. If the rapist (grandfather) was apprehended and charged or even known then you have information to put on your gedcom and research back from.

In any case, research what you have and can find.

If you are wanting information on races only, a DNA test cost around $400 and would tell you what races you have and what areas of the globe those races come from.
If you are looking for specifics, there should be some type of record by police, family members, neighbors back when the rape occurred, that can identify your biological grand father and you can do an actual family tree from there.
You should pursue the matter so you know what medical problems may run in your family to protect your children and yourself.

The autosomal DNA is used to trace ethnicity as well as paternity of a girl. However, expect to pay about $300.

The Y dna is passed solely from father to son.

The Mitochondrial DNA is passed through the female line. However, the male receives mitochondrial from his mother but he doesn't pass it on to his children.

The autosomal DNA is what most of our DNA is made of. We get it 50-50 from both parents. Right now in genealogy it is only used to determine ethnic and racial background.
