Many of the things that you "think" are part of religion (and I can talk about Islam for certainty) are not. No killing of people wihout reason, no superiority of men etc. And yes, a lot of tolerance for people.
Also, it would perhaps be good for you to think that at times one cannot choose one's base conditions but one can always choose how to react to those conditions.

you have to come to terms that homosexuality is sin. the homosexual person CAN abstain from homosexual acts, just like a heterosexual can abstain from lying, stealing, killing, pre-marital sex, and other sins.
