I give money to PEOPLE. Not religious institutions. Neighbors who need it to feed their kids, or buy clothes for them, or help pay their rent, etc. when they have bad months.
I also give money to organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center - you know the ones who took the KKK to court and bankrupted them, gave all their property and money to the mother of a black man they had killed. It was beautiful. They bankrupted Tom Metzger, one of the original White Power leaders, and a disgusting excuse for a human being if there ever was one.
These are the kinds of things I can get behind to donate to. I don't make too much money myself, so I want to make sure it will help someone, not just get swallowed up by some religious institute that's probably already got millions of dollars that are unaccounted for anyway.
And I don't give 10%. I don't know what percentage it is, I just give what I can when it's needed and don't count it.

Well, as you can see the 10% was always the general rule.
But whether folks gave this to appease their guilt or to genuinely help the church or the pastor will never be known.
As one wise man said "There is nobody more pious than a pretending Christian".
In one city near here the prostitutes and pimps lineup each Sunday to drop thousands of dollars into the collection plate, then on to the lineup up to get FORGIVENESS for all their sins and then go back out on the street and into the hotels and bars for another week of whoreing and stealing. I guess they think their 10% is their what the church charges for perpetual forgiveness.
Personally, as a Catholic, I cannot help with the payment of $750 million so far to pay for priest diddling crimes to the victims.
It must have cost a fortune to move those predators and pedophiles from parish to parish to parish instead of defrocking them but none were defrocked that I ever heard of. The Pope never seemed to address the issue at all so I did feel I should contribute money to keep these pedophiles moving on and on and on.

When I do go to church I give what is in my pocket at the time - wether that be 50c or $10. Although I prefer to donate to people who have nothing which is why I donate monthly to Tear Fund.
I don't donate based on a percentage of my income - that is written in the bible for folk of those times and we now live in a very different world - I donate what I can reasonably afford.

well I dint have an income, so I don't give for now, and God knows.
Any ways that is not your business or what are you thinking???/
why you would be genuinely curious, bible says you should return to GOD what belongs to GOD< he is the owner of this earth and all you posses, christians give money to church not because they are giving actually they are returning where it belongs, only in 10 %.
Ideally, but sometimes it doesnt happen, with so many thefts out there, is hard to know if you church is really working on something godly with your money, but just look around, if there is some spritual growing up around you then its fine, after all you are not giving to church you are returning what belongs to GOD.
if you were christian I will say. pray about where God wants you to through the seeds.
but you are not, probably you are part of the thefts :P, let me tell you something there is a speacial curse if you do something bad with children's God's money
I'm so tired tonigth , sorry for the missspelling im just tired

I've wondered the same thing. I read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (the DaVinci Code author), and it gives you a small glimpse of what riches and treasures the Vatican in Rome actually has. And then they pass around a collection plate every Sunday asking for more money. Why doesn't the Vatican sell some of it's own treasures and give away it's riches to people of poor nations? What are they storing up their treasures for? The Bible warns not to store up any wealth or treasures here on earth, because when you die, it's all gone any way, you can't enjoy it any more, so instead concentrate on storing up spiritual wealth.

Jehovah´s witness don´t give the tithing because you will never see in the OT that was required to christians, but maybe about 1-2% but is not in percentage is what you can afford to give if you wish you can give 10% or 20% or whatever but not because the bible says that you have to.
there is no persecution about that in fact nobody realize if you give or not cause the contribution box are very discreet.
the book of Malachi 3 was written before Jesus but in Ephessians 2:15 says that the old covenant including tithing was removed after Jesus ´s death and now we are under a new covenant, the majority of christians don´t know that verse.

a little over 20%
I've found that 10% is a good starting point. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. If you cannot give with joy, then money is your god. I started at 10% and find I'm more comfortable and happy at a little over 20%. The Lord blesses me SO much!

I must say that over the years, it is the best investment I have ever made. My church spent about a million dollars a year and looking at the good work they have done locally and in the overseas missions, the rewards are tremendous.

I buy new copies of Principia Discordia for people I think could benefit from it and that might still send royalties to Greg Hill (Malaclypse The Younger) and Kerry Thornley (Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst) and indirectly support the E.L.F. and L.D.D. but the Erisians are self supporting and need no temple.
