Yes, it should. A Cutlass' towing capacity is exactly 1000 lbs. Nothing more.

I own a shop, and will be the first to say this; If you had six of your buddies (including yourself), and all of you weighed at least 200 pounds, that would be (6 x 200) 1,200 pounds. Most any car can haul/pull that much weight without any problems. I would make sure the tow bar was attached good to the frame, and can take that much weight. If you are going to be traveling up long hills, then you may want to invest in a transmission cooler. They are pretty cheap, and can be installed for about $100 parts & labor. Having enough air in the tires, and good rear springs & shocks are some safety concerns too, so check to make sure the rear springs & shocks are in good condition.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Any cutlass before 1978 will tow a small amount.Any cutlass after 1978 will not tow anything but the people inside the doors.

Go with musicslickers answer but if your car has overdrive, be sure not to run it in overdrive, put it in d. This will keep your car from lugging and help keep it in its torque curve, if this is a high mileage vehicle transmission problems could be a concern but they probably would have been anyway.

yeah, down hill! No, seriously, it could but I wouldn't recommend it. Those poor devil's have transmission issues as it is and the brakes will also take a beating. Don't you have a buddy with a pickup???? That's what buddies are for
