You should talk to your dr , He/She will know what to put you on , or if you need to be on any thing. They do need to know that you are having these problems.

Anti depressants should be used only as a last resort!!!! Take it from my experience, you do not want to have to deal with the effects of anti-depressants.

If I were you I would continue to hold off on the anti-depressants since most anti-depressants are additive and you do not want to become dependent on them.

Try some of the following suggestions...

1. councelling takes time, which mean you may not be cured within a week or a month. Depression usually is a build up of a lot of different problems that started years before the symptoms appear. If you are like me and find it hard to talk face to face with someone you don't know or someone you do know about your problem/personal life, I suggest using the internet. There are many site that offer professional councelling for anyone who need it. There are also places where you can call that keep everything anonymous meaning you don't have to give a name or a number or anything. ( I found this out through my doctor.)

2. If this still doesn't work, try writing. Write a journal and write everything you are feeling. I find that this really works for me. I can write just about anything without the fear that someone will think badly of me or even yell at me for what I said. Often times I use what I am feeling to write stories. This really helps because it gives me a sense of peace.

3.Another technique you may want to try using is what I call the rock technique in which you find a smooth rock hold it in your hand when you feel angry and focus on making your mind become as smooth and calm as a rock. You do this by concentrating on the texture of the rock by feeling it and by repeating I am as smooth as a rock, calm as a rock, and picture the rock in your head. For this you muct have patience and great mental ability since you are trying to convince your mind of it.

4. I know this one maybe hard, but I also tried joining in more group activities or sport activities. Something to help me focus on life and give me hope instead of staying all alone thinking. I found that tai chi was very good, because it focuses on the positive and on having inner balance as well as outter. Anything that is like a type of meditation is really helpful.

5. If this doesn't work and you find that you can't find anyone to talk to still, i suggest that is if you are catholic to go to your priest for confession. I found this the least expensive because you can hide from the priest and they can basically act like free councellors. And they are very good listeners.

A young pastor at our church shared his story this past Sunday with us. He talked about how he often felt so much sadness while growing up. At one point he took medication, but after four years he was still battling with the same emotional problems. he said that when he started going to our church, he realized how happy people were (are) ... just really genuinely happy and friendly. He started volunteering for the church and became very involved in various areas. he found people who he could discuss his problems with and who prayed for and with him. He slowly realized that his sadness was a consequence of unexpressed grief. While growing up he lost both his grandfathers, but never cried although he was utterly sad about their passing.
I never thought that he went through that kind of agony, because he is now such a happy person.... no sadness out of nowhere anymore ever since he found God- was his testimony.

Check out Borderline Personality Disorder. See if the symptoms that are occurring are related to you. I might be wrong..Anti-depressants like Prozac and Welbutrin can cause phycotic reactions. It was noted in clinical trials. Sometimes it is trial and error process with these meds. If you have extremely negative reaction to them, ask your doctor to prescribe you something milder or different brand which might agree with your neurotransmitter substance- like Serotonin

Instead of asking your doctor for drugs, why don't you ask him for the treatment which MIGHT include drugs?

There are all sorts of therapy available and only a qualified doctor can tell you what might work for you. Everybody reacts to medications differently. That's why you have to do this under doctor's supervision.

I suppose you have to ask your psychiatrist. The psychiatrist is in a better position to advise you on medication.

Try moderate exercise, it helps. Go for nature walks. Talk to friends about your problems. Don ' t bottle everything up. Prayer does help. You may like to seek church counselling if you are religious. Please avoid sugar and coffee and high fat and carbohydrate food.

You may like to switch counsellor.

Depression takes time to go away. Be patient.
