I have windows 2000 on a alto computer. For some reason my cursor has slowed down now when i type as slow as i type i get ahead of my cursor. I have to wait on the computer to finish what i have typed. Sometimes my cursor even shakes. My machine is bug free as far as i know. Sometimes i even have to stop typing and wait for every thing to catch up. Any body know what the problem is?

There are four possibilities...

By windows 2000, I am assuming your computer is old. I am also assuming you haven't reinstalled windows since you purchased it. Over time, windows gets slower, and slower and slower, but most people replace their computers before this becomes a problem. Even if there are no malicious programs on your computer, this is just the natural cycle.

Another possibility is that your document is longer than your writing program can easily handle, for instance, MSWord 97 gets horribly bogged down once your document reaches 50 pages or so.

There could also be some program eating up your CPU cycles. Check what programs are running in the background, if any of them are using an inordinate amount of memory or CPU power, hen it might be slowing down your system. If it only happens occasionally, then it might mean that there is a program that is performing a task at that time thats using up your resources, like an auto save or Anti-Virus update.

The final possibility is that you have some form of malware that you are unable to detect.

(The thing you call a cursor is actually a caret. Many people refer to it as a cursor, but the term is ambiguous because it is the proper term for the mouse pointer.)

This is so wierd, because I had the same trouble today. So I
figured it was time to remove cookies, delete temp files,
and defrag my hard drive, since my cursor was so sluggish.
And after I did all that, I shut down, and started up again, and
my cursor has worked just fine since. So it probably only
needed to reboot. Try that first, and then if it's still not working
right, clean out your files and give yourself some more space
on your hard drive. It worked for me, apparently.

You can check cursor setting from
Click on My computer
Control Panel
Mouse
Here you will different kind of setting for cursor. Even you can adjust speed.

But if your problem is new and you do not know what to do then use the safest way to restore old settings.
Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore choose the date when PC was working fine and follow the on screen guidance this method is very best when we do not know the cause of problem.

Try whichever you like.
