I was reading in the Bible (the Old Testament) that it is wrong to eat pork. Since then I have not eaten any pork products. Many fellow Christians tell me that it is okay because we dont go by the Old Testament. Can someone tell me if it is okay and where it says in the New Testament. Thanks!

In the Old Testament they could not eat meat unless they split the hoof and chew the cud.

Deuteronomy 14: 7-8

In the New Testament it is no longer a sin to eat pork.

1 Timothy 4:4&5
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

I have been reading a lot of health books and eating organic foods. What the Holistic Dr.'s are teaching in their books is Pigs have no sweat glands so all the toxics that enter their body cannot come out of their body. So if the toxins can't come out of the pigs body then it stays in the meat. When you consume the meat of the pig, you are also consuming all of the toxicity that is left in the meat. Toxicity is poisonous to the human body and creates all kinds of sickness and disease. Perfect example pork is proven to cause High Cholesterol and Heart Disease. Pork and Shellfish is foods people should not consume, and if you do be very cautious on what kind of pork you buy. If you really get the craving to eat it once in a while; I suggest you buy some at the Whole Food Store. I am like you; I stopped eating pork and shellfish, but I do eat pork once in a while. I have not eaten shellfish for about 2 years now. I just started reading the NT so I don't really know what Jesus says about pork but I really do know what the OT says about it. Let me tell all of you, when God made those laws about pork and shellfish we should all take that seriously because who else would know best about what is good and bad for our body and health. Well of course, God created our bodies so He knows what is best, correct?

Your right! Even christian shouldn't eat unclean meat such as pig. Not only does God tell us not to eat it but sciencetist would tell that u will have have high blood pressure, if u don't stop eating pork.

A. All animals which do not have a split hoof and chew the cud (Deuteronomy 14:6). (pig are unclean)

But I like pork. Will God destroy me if I eat it?

"For, behold, the Lord will come with fire ... and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many. They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves ... eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the Lord." Isaiah 66:15-17.

This may be shocking, but it is true and must be told. The Bible positively states that all who eat "swine's flesh," the "mouse," and other unclean things that are an "abomination" will be destroyed with fire at the coming of the Lord. When God says to leave something alone and not eat it, we should by all means obey Him. After all, the mere eating of a piece of forbidden fruit by Adam and Eve, a sinless couple, brought sin and death to this world in the first place. Can anyone say it doesn't matter, when God so clearly shows it does? God says men will be destroyed because they "chose that in which I delighted not." Isaiah 66:4.

But didn't this law of clean and unclean animals originate at Sinai? Wasn't it for the Jews only, and didn't it end at the cross?

Noah's sacrifice of a clean animal (Genesis 8:20) shows that he understood the difference between clean and unclean.
"And the Lord said unto Noah, ... Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens ... and of beasts that are not clean by two." Genesis 7:1, 2.

No indeed! The Bible has ample evidence that there were clean and unclean animals from the very dawn of Creation. Noah lived long before any Jews existed, but he knew of the clean and unclean, because he took into the ark the clean animals by "sevens" and the unclean by "twos." Revelation 18:2 refers to some birds as being unclean just before the second coming of Christ. The death of Christ had no altering effect whatever on these health laws, since the Bible says that all who break them will be destroyed when Jesus returns (Isaiah 66:15-17). The Jew's stomach and digestive system in no way differs from that of a Gentile. These health laws are for all people for all time.

If we ate the right food, we would be a healthier nations. Thats why American have heart and high blood pressure problems.

There are two obvious omissions in the New Testament:

1) Absolutely no arguing by Jews that Sunday is the wrong day--the early church kept Saturday.

2) Anyone forcing Gentiles to adopt Jewish dietary restrictions; in fact, Peter was condemned for eating with Gentiles in Galatians.

However, there is wisdom in obeying God, and you will avoid a lot of diseases by abandoning scavengers. Many prohibited rodents and vipers carry rabies; pork has trichinosis, which can be fatal.

I don't eat anything that had a mother or a face. The Eden diet has cleaned out my arteries, and I should never have to have bypass surgery.

In the Bible days they did not have refrigeration so a lot of people got sick that ate pork. That is why so many religions frown on it. In the modern world this is not an issue. Remember the old testament was for that time. The new testament is for our time.

You're ok to eat pork. In the old testament there were a lot of things that were more basic standards back then. The new testament basically adjusted some of those rules/laws to sort of modernize said laws to better fit the new age of man.

Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

It is not because we don't go by the old testament but Peter had a vision that God showed him a basket of animals and said we can eat whatever we want - this also links in to the preaching of the Gospel to the gentiles... God was removing some of our barriers to connecting with people...

Having said that to eat too much pork has been proven harmful, as the type of meat it is, I believe God made that rule to keep the israelites healthy as their were no vaccines and stuff when they were given that rule.

I personally think it's okay. many of the leviticus laws are for living a healthy, absolutely perfect life. pork is one of the least healthy meats. so no, you shouldn't be a porkaholic.

Jesus did say "what entereth into a man is not what defileth him, but what comes out. for what goes in enters his stomach and is dealt with, but what comes out comes from the heart". basically, my rule is 'if Jesus didn't give a rationale to follow it or He gave a rationale of why it is not part of the New Covenant, I'm not following it'. maybe I'm wrong.

if you don't want to eat pork, that's fine. that's your choice. it isn't wrong either way as long as you don't try and condemn others for doing the opposite. and vise versa.

Jesus appeared to Paul and presented him with food that was considered unclean, and Paul objected saying he'd never eaten anything unclean, but Jesus replied that nothing He's made is unclean. This did away with the laws on cleanliness. You can't just look at the law itself, you also have to understand the purpose of the law. The laws on cleanliness were there for health reasons, and some, to separate the Jews from everyone else. Now, the Holy Spirit can live in us and that separates us from everyone else, so we don't have to follow those laws.

Hi,

Eating of Pork WAS prohibited for the Israelites in the time of Moses to do.

In the Christian despensation, Christ cleansed all meats.

Mark 7:19

"because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean. "

One of his apostles, Apostle Paul, said in 1 Timothy 4:3-5,

"forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:

for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer. "

Receive it with thanksgiving to God.
