How old is the kitten? He could be crying for his momma.

Or he might have something wrong with his little tummy. A vet would be able to determine what's wrong, and the little tyke should have a first check-up soon anyway. Not to mention he might be sick, if the conditions you found this kitten in were so awful.

Meanwhile, try giving him something soft and fuzzy to lay on, and a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel to simulate a warm momma-body. Also- Have you tried a ticking clock or even a radio playing soft music? My mother swears that helps keep the inside pets calmed down- and certainly it wouldn't hurt.

Good luck!

Haha, I'm glad I'm not going through this again. =b
I just recently went through this with a Basset Hound puppy I got last month. And let me tell you...he was LOUD.

Well the poor kitten probably misses his mum. You saif you got him at a dump? How old is the kitten? The people since they are kinda dump-ish people probably let him go too soon. He should be over 8 weeks.

Well many people will say 'Oh it's just a phase' and you know what they're probably right.
It ten to one is a phase.

Give him a few more days and see if he keeps it up. If this goes on for more than a week maybe something is wrong.
after another week ask the vet.
We once had a kitten and he whined too much so we took him to the vet and you know what he had a bladder problem and it was very uncomfortable. His way of letting us know was whining.

Well I hope I helped because I know what its like to not get any sleep because of a pet.

Well like I said give him another week. He probably just misses his mum.

Well, best of luck! Have fun with your kitten.
And oh, try to get some sleep even if it means wearing earplugs. ;)

Im not sure how old this kitten is.. but it could be cold and just needs warming pad to keep warm and bed in dark corner of pen helps.. You also should be feeding this kitten soft food three times a day and dry food free.. and water fresh .. needs some toys to play with.. Its baby you need to give it time to adjust to the new home...
has the kitten used the litter box if it hasb't then it was too young to be taken from it mother,, you need to help my putting warm wet papertowel down their and rub it like the mother is cleaning the kitten this also could be your problem..

Thes lizard doesn't talk.. but the smell would of killed you with the dead bugs..

how old is it? depending on age, kittens usually eat every 3-4 hours. and is it pooping? it may be constipated with a stomache ache, and if so try rubbing it's bottom with a wash cloth and warm water to stimulate it to poo. If that's not it, make sure it has a warm place to sleep like on fleece, or something soft and fluffy. also, make sure you're giving it plenty of attention too. you have to remember, it's in a new home, it will take some time to adjust, but you showing it that you love it will only help speed up the process. good luck!

Has ur kitten had all of it's shots? It's possible that it could be sick, especially if u got it from somewhere that looked like a dump. If ur kitten has a round almost pot belly it's possible that it could have worms and is really uncomfortable that could cause it to meow. Or maybe it's simply just a noisy cat.

How old is it? Very young kittens tend to do this when alone. He sounds frightened and lonely. If you haven't gone to the vet yet, get a check up for parasites, age, etc. Is he eating well? If he's not used to the new food, he could have a stomach ache as well. If he's very young, some warm kitten milk replacer might help.

if your kitten still young, it just cry for some cares or love. may be it getting sad or lonely coz by changing place, far from its mother or its relatives. give your kitten some time to make itself more familiar with your house. and you'll find that cat is very lovely.

Cheers

Hmmmm even if he is closer to you than your son, he feels something is missing perhaps???? Cats are pretty conscious of when things change and they dont like change. My cats freak when we go on vacation, as soon as they see the suitcases... the meowing, pacing and nervousness show ...... he probably will be okay when your son gets home.... but make sure its not pain or a urinary tract problem... sometimes that is a reason they wander and howl..... and your picking him up does comfort him so he stops... Good Luck

I have a new kitten who cries a lot too (although she does stop eventually). She usually stops if I pick her up and hold her on my lap for awhile. However, we have for the time being put her in a spare room at night - shut the door, left her food, water, litter box and toys in there so she can't tear anything up or drive us crazy!

After making sure there is nothing medically wrong with her, I would recommend putting the kitten in a room where it can't destroy anything at night that's far enough away from your bedrooms so you can't hear it crying (even a bathroom will work).

You could also try giving her a fluffy stuffed animal to sleep with. If you think about it, it is just a baby, and it's been taken away from its mom. Think back 10 years to when your son was born - babies cry a lot! But they will eventually 'grow out of it'.

Take it into the vet. And also, try and go back to get the other kittens if you think it's such a dump. Maybe your little guy is sick. Kittens are more inclined to get colds and keep them longer. Maybe it's something internal. Please get him help.

Very young kittens often calm down when you respond as their mama cat would've done. Meow back. I'm not joking. It worked wonders with my first two cats - I brought them home before they were entirely weaned because the young children in the house where they were born were getting too rough with the kittens (killed one). For the first several days, whenever they meowed, I meowed back. It calmed them and helped them bond with me.
