Don't give either up - make sure the older cat gets the same amount of love - and remember any adjustment takes time.

Just give him some time! So many people get rid of the new cat because they don't become instant friends with the old cat. Cats can take WEEKS or MONTHS to get used to each other. You cannot rush them. A lot of growling, hissing and spitting and ticked off cats are very normal reactions. Just spend time with your old cat, and give him treats when ever the new kitten is around. He's just a little stressed out, but he'll be fine.

He is just adjusting. My cat Ripley was a very spoiled only cat. I thought I would get her a friend, a new kitten. Ripley did the same thing. She swatted at it, growled and hissed at it, she had a real dramatic meow. She is very territorial, but less than 2 weeks later I couldn't find the kitten anywhere and I was ready to panic. I had found them curled up to sleep together. They just need time to adjust. Ripley would the kitten down and I would hear the kitten crying and I would find Ripley just grooming her. I kept expecting the worst. My sister had the same problem, and it took them a bit longer than mine, her cat was older though. Just ride it out, it's stressful and you worry, but just reward the older one when he's good and give him plenty of attention too.

You are so right on the money. I just went through this same thing, so I can honestly tell you through research and time that your cat is sad, but he will get over it. You just need to make sure you give your old cat a little extra attention, so that he knows that he is not being replaced. Set a side extra play time just for him and special treats as well. Do not ignore the new kitty but make sure that the old one feels just as important. The main thing is to not give up. In time the two will be best friends and everythine will be normal. It toom my cats aout 6 months. But they are best friends now. I can not even get the old kitty to give me the attention I used to get.

Hmmm.... that's a toughie!! your cat might feel like he's being replaced. make sure you pay an equal amount of attention to both the cats, and if you have to pay more attention to your older cat to make him happy too then you should. i had a friend that had an elderly dog and wanted him to have a buddy but, when the 2 dogs met her old dog got very depressed and hid every time the new dog was around. In the end she had to give up the new dog to make her old dog happy. when i was dog sitting my friends dog who was a 2 month old chihuahua and when my dog met him at first she hated him. Every time he was around she would growl and snap at him, but we made sure that we paid more attention to her and eventually she got used to him being there.
Good luck! Hope this helps!!

first, he is JEALOUS. he went from first place to a perceived less wanted second place in the affection department. he is not angry, but feels neglected due to the attention you have to give the younger cat. instead of not holding him when you are holding the younger cat, hold them both even though you may be mainly wanting to give the younger cat more affection. it will be a sign for the older one that he has not been forgotten or replaced due to the younger cat.

Give your older cat time. Make sure that you give it lots of extra "one on one" time with just you and him, no new kitten anywhere around. Once he knows that you have not forgotten him and that he is still your favorite boy, I think he will come around.

I wouldn't get rid of either one. He seems sad but it takes a long time for animals to accept each other. THey have to et used to the other ones scent. That's going to take some time. Anyway, show him more attention until they get along better. I'm sure eventually things will work out with him. :)

Just be sure to give your first cat plenty of love and attention. And play with them together.
