This is my second wedding and my fiance and I are footing the bill. It seems the dresses I like are beyond his comfort zone and a few friends suggested thrift stores as my next shopping trip... Wouldnt that be saying our wedding day isnt worth a few hundred bucks? Isn't that some sort of bad luck as well??

I think that it's perfectly fine to get your wedding gown from a thrift store, resale shop, eBay, consignment shop, etc. I actually got mine from a bridal consignment shop. I did this for several reasons.

The chemicals that are used to produce a brand new wedding dress are dangerous to the environment so instead of purchasing a new dress I decided to purchase a used one and get it dry cleaned at an environmentally friendly cleaners. Also, many dresses (as well as many day to day clothes) are made in poor foreign sweatshop conditions which I disagree with. By purchasing a used dress I did not contribute to this practice.

And then there were purely selfish reasons. I wanted to get a very intricate gown with a lot of beading and very luxurious cloth. I payed $600 for a $3000 dress that was worn one time for just a few hours by a bride that is still happily married. What's the point in spending all of that extra money when I am extremely happy with my gorgeous dress and the great deal that I got?

I am very pleased with my experience shopping at the consignment shop. I didn't penny pinch, but I think that I was level headed and got the dress of my dreams for a wonderful price while still following through with my moral beliefs.

If you don't feel comfortable going this route then don't do it. It may not be the right decision for you, but you may want to give it a quick thought before dismissing it. Good luck with your wedding planning.

Wedding dresses are worn once and then never again! It's not like you would get a worn-out dress or anything from a thrift shop - go for it! My cousin found her dress in a thrift shop and it was honestly the most gorgeous wedding dress I've ever seen. It actually even still had the original tags on it when she got it - obviously someone bought it and never used it, so it was totally new! Plus it was only about $100 so she got a great deal. Go for it - nobody will be able to tell!

A wedding dress is a very personal thing. Keep in mind that if you are an average size the seasons change soon for wedding dresses from summer to fall and you can pick up a great dress for practically nothing since it is from last season or buy a dress off of the rack and save a few hundred as well.

Keep in mind if you buy a dress at a thrift store you still have to have it cleaned and depending on where you are that alone could be upwards of $100 on top of what you paid for the dress to begin with.

I would find out exactly what he is willing to pay for a dress and then find the dress that you like and see what the difference is. Talk to the sales people and see when the next season of dresses will be coming in (then the dress you like will be on sale!) Also get the item number from the manufacturer and start hunting the internet for the best price. There are many places online that don't have actual retail shops so there prices are much cheaper for the exact same dress. (Ebay shops is a great place to start looking)

I don't know about the bad luck of wearing someone else's dress but, I just wouldn't feel comfortable in someone else's dress myself. If it was me I would find out just how much money I would need to fill in myself for the dress of my dreams and then figure out how to come up with that much on my own.

It is not wrong at all. And it's not bad luck. Afterall, it's just a dress. And I'd bet many of the dresses might not have even been worn... and might have tags attached. Do you know how many brides ended up changing their dress because their plans changed, or their size changed... or the wedding was called off. You can also find New - with tags gowns on ebay very cheap.

At least give the thrift shop a chance. You never know what you might find. And it will be the first step toward a helathy marriage because you will be putting the needs of the marriage before your own personal wants.

Thrift shops are for all and sundry!! i'm no longer prosperous via any potential, yet i'm no longer hurting the two, and that i save at thrift shops all the time. an excellent sort of thrift shops are made to no longer extremely help the adverse human beings, yet to help the charity or charities that they decide on. in case you experience a splash accountable approximately it, then why don't you basically donate the countless issues you have which you now no longer use? That way you're bartering, in a fashion. Or grant to volunteer there each so often, yet in my opinion, the thrift shops are honest game. My buddy as quickly as informed me to 'take great element approximately a deprived worldwide.' I do this, you're able to desire to too ;)

You are putting too much emphasis on a dress that will only be worn once. What would you rather have a marriage or debt? Besides unless you write it on the invitations or make an announcement of it, who will know? You could take the dress to be altered to make it a little different. Your friends are trying to help you to keep from going broke for one lousy day that no one else will remember and they are keeping you from turning into a bridezilla because you are stressed out about the costs. Besides with the extra money you can use it towards your honeymoon, which your fiance would appreciate more anyway. Either way you focus should be on the marriage not a stupid dress. If you truly respect and love him and he is indicating that this is causing stress, show him you respect his opinion and save the money. But by not respecting his hesitation where money is concerned will cause him to not respect your hesitations when you suggest that he waits to buy something. Don't start out your marriage fighting over money. It will end with you fighting over money.

I have seen some beautiful dresses and gowns at our area Goodwill Store. It is not bad luck to buy a used Gown. If you can save a few bucks then what is the harm ? I am getting married in October and have already purchased my dress and got it at Macy's on the half price rack. If I found something that I liked at a Thrift Store I would buy it. Marriage does not take luck... it takes love and a lot of hard luck... I wish you well.....

How much you spend on your dress has noting to do with how important your wedding day is. Finding a thrifty dress just means that you realize it's stupid to pay hundreds of dollars for something that will only be worn for a few hours. Its a sound financial decision. You buy a 500 dress to wear for 10 hours...you just paid 50 an hour for it. Would you do something like that with any other piece of clothing? It's just a white dress.

It's not bad luck because someone else has worn it. Lets think about this. You buy a dress from a shop and it has been tried on hundreds of times. What's one more wearing? Are you going to call up every bride who has ever tried on the dress to see if their marriage was succesful so you know if their bad luck has rubbed off.

If you find a dress you like who cares if it's used or not? Are you going to have a "used dress" stamp on your butt? Seriously.

There is nothing wrong or shameful about buying something within you and your future husband's budget even if it means getting a wedding dress from a thrift store. After all, what is more important about the wedding is the core of the relationship itself and not the material aesthetics of the wedding. It is not necessary to conform to so-called society standards of being 'classy'. Do not forget too that very often, people who show a classy upfront do not have much money in their pockets!
