It really depends on what they are buying i can spend at least 12 dollars a week if i am buying beer and i am not a alcoholic but spending twelve dollars a week on hard Liquor and drinking it all during the week that might be a problem

You can spend anywhere from $2 to $500 on a single bottle of wine, if you have the means. In that context, $12 could be a lot or an eye-dropper full.

If they can stop drinking, even if it is causing problems in their life. THEN they are an alcoholic.

I know people who spend more than that in a day.

not really. I could buy one bottle of my fave wine for $18. That's equivalent to 4 glasses. Or if I buy one six back of fat tire beer, that's $8

being an alcoholic has nothing to do with a certain dollar figure. It has to do with volume consumed.
