I know the Catholic Church performs exocisms and so does the Eastern Orthodox church. But I don't recall ever hearing of a Protestant church, i.e., Baptist, Pentecostal, Assemblies, etc. ever performing one. Do they?

Cos demon possession in the Western World is not that common.

Also it is a lot different to a catholic excorism, we pray, ensure we are in a room with nothing to injure either party, we ask permission of the demon possessed person, we don't use latin, the devil seems to be bi-lingal, and it goes down alot like the excorcisms Jesus did, In the name of Jesus get out... You have to make sure that you are know by God, or the demons may turn on you like they did the sons of Zeba.... (ACTS)

Some protestant ministers do exorcisms, but it's not widely discussed. I can't tell you why.

I actually saw one that was done by a pastor in our area that had been video taped. It was kinda creepy, but it wasn't like the movie or anything like that. It was a lot more subtle. You could tell it wasn't staged and you could tell that the voices coming from the girl weren't human. It wasn't highly publicized even within the church and from what I understand, they weren't even really sure that they wanted it known that it had happened.

I have heard one other minister speak of doing one, but I didn't get any details on that one.

I think the ones that do real exorcisms don't want the publicity because they are doing them for the right reasons. If you see someone that's doing more than one or two in their lifetime, I'd have to wonder how real that is.

Also, when protestants do it, there's not a ritual or rite that is spelled out like for Catholics. It's basically commanding the spirits to leave the body of the possessed one because the power of the blood of Christ is stronger than the demons are.

While I do believe it's real and possible, I'd be highly skeptical and cautious especially if they make a big deal out of it.

Some protestant churches do it, and some do it a lot more than the catholics. Some protestant churches originated during the enlightenment period, and so perhaps because of the prevalent beliefs of that time, tending to not believe in anything supernatural, don't do it. I do agree with you that the Roman Catholic church has perhaps over-rated the priesthood historically, although they may change things in the future, and come more in line with other churches. I think they did this back in the Middle Ages when the Roman Catholic church was very political, and wanted to maintain respect for priests by giving them a very elevated position in the Church. Things seem to go wrong when religion is directly tied to politics and tries to control people en-masse (that's the main problem with Islam at the moment, not that I believe that message of course, but the mixing of politics with religion is making some moslems behave very badly.)

I have seem exorcisms in Protestant Churches. I grew up in a Non-Denominational church and remember an exorcism taking place when I was about eight or nine. My memories of it are vague but it does happen. Granted i was only present for the first bit of it. A deacon and his family took most of the kids to there house for the duration of the exorcism.

Yes... we do, but, not what you call an exorcism by way of TV and such. It is real, not a show and tel!
There will be lots of it happening just before Jesus returns, God wants all of His creation as He can get home.
You laugh...but, you will see. There is going to be a mighty move of God come. It's already happening. That's why so many are falling because God wants those who are for real to have no hindrances to do His work.<><

When you are in a personal relationship with God you have all the power you need to drive out demons but they will steer clear of you I know I've seen it on mission trips. I would meet people who would would be demon possessed and It would astound me that I could speak to them about God, I could tell them about Jesus and the gospel , and could even offer them a bible. But when I went to pray with them the would become extremely uncomfortable and even violent at times. It creeped me out sometimes. I'm just saying I've seen it. Just make sure you are in relationship and clean (no unconfessed sin). And if you can't say Jesus is your Lord then don't try it or you could become a victim because the demonic spirit could turn on you... Be careful. God Bless.

Those guys have no training. Hell, most of them don't even have a grade 12 education. Priests have been trained to deal in exorcism, or at least know another priest they can call to perform one.

Exorcism is a "power encounter" with a demonic force. We've had a number of them in the churches I go to; but we take bigger "guns" to the encounter.

Jesus gives his faithful "power over the enemy". If it's that tough of a job, then maybe the guy doing it hasn't received the power from Christ yet.

Honestly, it's not usually like the movies.

I've seen people cast out demons with a single statement.

A while ago there was a preacher named Lester Summerall. Not sure of his faith. I want to say Baptist. He did exorcisms. I don't think they use that term. And for the life of me I can't remember the term they use. I think they call it "casting out demons". Maybe.
