Yes! God is truly a source of great comfort to me. Since I was a small child born into a home of tremendous abuse of every kind imaginable. Then as a teenager brutally raped, sodomized and beaten. I felt so alone and lost. But my belief and knowledge of God kept me going. Suicide was a wish and a dream for so many years of my life, but with God I was able to persevere, learn to truly love myself, life and truly live. Without God I would be nothing nor have nothing, He is the reason I am who I am, Have what I have and Live!!!
Great Question!!!

I think I'm in the middle
I used to have a belief in god when I was young
but I feared it would be just that; a comfort and not a genuine belief- plus in the christian sense it felt unnatural to me.
but that's a lot of the reason I don't automatically believe in many things.
I'm wiccan though and yes, I admit there is comfort in my beliefs but that comfort comes from knowing other religions and looking into them and truly feeling that for me, mine is right.

Yes, it brings me peace of mind.
I know you might have a hard time understanding that concept, but yes.
Having a god/gods in my life left me with more questions unanswered, and more irrational fears, and hopes, then anything else.
Now, if I want something, I go out and do my best and achieve it. I don't worry about whether there is a heaven or a hell, death is just that, death.
It is a wonderful, liberating experience, and it is very comforting to know that you can have faith in humanity.

My religious beliefs give me comfort, but that's not the end of the matter. Sometimes, my beliefs and convictions also end up causing me problems, grief, and/or outright pain. If comfort was all I wanted out of life, there are pharmaceuticals for that. Religion is not a cure-all for life's problems, nor should it be viewed as such.

I'm am comforted by maintaining my rationalism. I don't require a God to give me a place in this world. Morality exists without God. I wish to leave my mark in this world long after I have passed away through my loved ones, my students, and my artistic endeavors. An after life does not have to be heaven, it can be the lives you affect while you are here.

Interesting question.
I think God is comfortable because He IS.
He's there, He loves me, He's my salvation and my rock.
That being said, in my opinion, Christians today who believe their faith simply is a "comfort" to them (like some security blanket) really need to study more. Ask questions of God, get to know Him. He's real, He's alive and He wants to have a personal relationship. Think of your relationship with Him like you would think of your relationship with your husband/wife. Ask, argue, question, study, cry, lament, pray.
Too many people think of God as distant. He's not - He's right here, closer than a brother.
blessings :)

I can admit that I hold to some of my beliefs because they are comforting. But I recognize that that is belief out of emotion. I'm ok with admitting that I might have some "bad theology." But hopefully I'm always willing to learn and grow beyond my comfort zones.

You hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. I don't feel that I need to believe in a higher power to feel content in life. I am a morally good person, a great wife and mother, a hard worker, etc. However I do have trouble understanding why some people need to believe. It just seems strange to me, the things, crazy things, people do for religion.

Honestly, my perspective is golden.
Believing in god is reassuring, but at the same time, it is unsettling.
I believe strongly in a "negative feedback loop cycle".
Because the more you believe, the more you doubt. Doubt makes you hit rock bottom, and god comforts you. Once you're doing fine in life, you speculate how futile everything might be, if one life is all we got?
Also then we have to speculate if there is an afterlife, and what are risks are there.
What if ALL afterlives for everyone are worse than what you imagine to be rock-bottom here?
Who necessarily says that the afterlife is a "step up", it may be dark, void, and you being blind, deaf, mute and with no objects around you, not even ground to stand on.
You cant drift because there is no matter for you to propel yourself off of.
Why could our entire human existence be so crushing?
PLEASE read my link and answer my question. I respected your answer, and for you to ask such a philosophical question, begs your invite to answer this question below.
