My cousin Jessica is the first in her family, including her parents and 3 older brothers, to have graduated from high school. She graduated on the 22nd. THAT gives me hope. To see her rise above the abject poverty and hopelessness of the rest of her family, and want something better for herself. I took her in and raised her for a while, and I'm so proud of her I could pop. Seeing her and her sisters want better lives gives me hope.

Maybe that sounds silly, but it's true.

The sacrifice and more importantly the ressurection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The promise that one day I might walk on the golden streets of Heaven beside God, The Only. The promise that shines through all the sin in my life. All of God's creations from birds to rocks. My discouragement being lifted off of the ground by a group of men praying for people at a festival. The Lord moves all the time in me and this world that is so easy to get frustrated with, and that is what gives me hope.

This is such a cliche answer, but love. That and true friendship. And the beauty of flawed people. And self esteem.

And after seeing all of the people flocking to Olive Garden, the fact that my favorite restaurant is still kicking gives me hope. At least some people have taste buds.

Yes, yes. I know. Olive Garden is teh best "Italian" ever. Whatev.

(Did I just say whatev? See! See!! Even the mere mention of Olive Garden brings out the worst in me!)

EDIT: Oh! And seeing the proverbial light bulb blink on over my student's heads. I love that.

Seeing people do a kindness that I did not expect them to do. Often times people will step out of character when a minor opportunity to help arises (especially if they think no one is watching). That and hearing my 12 year old walk around singing "Working Class Hero" some some Popular kids band has covered it (She can't find it in herself to believe I had a Greenday tape 15 years ago - poor kid)

Romans 15:4

"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. "

The fact the George Bush is leaving office. Believe it or not, in Health Care, America is rated #37. This is nothing to be proud of.
