Actually, no not really. Apparently, there are little earthquakes that no one feels, but there hasn't been a big earthquake in awhile.

Major earthquakes are actually pretty rare. It's not like the same parts of the country that have hurricanes and tornados year after year. Big devastating earthquakes don't happen on a regular basis. You just hear about the big ones, and it freaks people out.

Nothing lately have not had one that we could feel in over 10 to 12 months we are about do for one soon. I know they say that the changes in the weather have nothing to do with it but if you have lived here for a long time you can almost tell when we are going to have one. Anything under a 3 mag. can't really feel it just feels like the traffic outside. If you live in a newer building they have made many improvements over the years. the structures are built farther in the ground where the bedrock is and some building roll with the quake. if you are not to close to the epicenter most of the time you should be fine. You just have to make sure that if you hang stuff on a wall that you get anchor screws or fined a stud. And dressers, bookshelves anything really big that could fall in an earthquake secure it properly.

there hasn't been a really large quake since Northridge which tore up the Valley. Every brick wall came down. Some streets looked like ToonTown in Disneyland, with the center of the road 5 ft higher than the outside lanes. One freeway collapsed. The stucco came off the sides of many apartment buildings and the units were condemned. One apt bldg went from 3 levels to 2 in seconds. People had to live in tents in the park. Most of the other ones in Big Bear and Yucca Valley did little damage. Most smaller ones feel like the UPS truck going fast down your street. Don't worry. We won't have one while you are visiting.

There has not been anything that has caused damage in a while. Earthquakes are happening all the time.

According to this earthquake map, CA probably has at least one a day, but most of them we don't feel.

...I think the last one of real note (close to L.A) was Northridge over 13 years ago..There actually was one in West Hollywood a long time ago...I don't think it's something to plan your vacation around..
