I had a catholic ceremony and the priest had us place our rings on our left ring fingers.

Left hand, next to the baby finger. If your thumb is finger number 1, you place the ring on finger number 4 on the left hand. It's not just Catholic.

I believe in most all religions it's the third finger on the left hand. It's the couples choice on what rings to exchange. Some go for rings on both husband and wife, some go with just wife, and some don't do either (necklaces and bracelets were exchanged). My husband wore a ring at the ceremony but removed it afterward because he worked moving freight and neither of us wanted him injured.

In North America, most English Roman Catholics wear their wedding rings on the left hand, ring finger.
However, just so other answerers are aware of, other Catholics use the right hand for the wedding rings, depending upon their nationality - for example, from Eastern Europe. My husband is from there, and asked that I follow the tradition of theirs, and I wear my engagement and wedding ring on my right hand.
Similarly, when my mom was married here in 1945, her wedding ring was placed on the right hand - in the same Ukrainian (Byzantine Rite) Catholic tradition, but she later changed it to her right hand, so she was like her friends. I've enjoyed wearing it on the right hand, and lots of our friends and my husband's family all do the same, so it doesn't feel out of place.

western tradition states the engagement and wedding ring goes on the left hand... on the ring finger i.e. the one next to the pinky.

The groom's ring should really be placed through the nose. It will be there soon enough.
