New Testament theology is what God has revealed about Himself in the New Testament. The system of New Testament theology takes the various truths that the New Testament books teach us about God and presents them in an organized fashion. The New Testament discloses the coming of the predicted Messiah in the Old Testament (Isaiah 9), the birth of the New Testament Church (the body of Christ), the Church age, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the rejection of Israel of the come Messiah, Jesus, the further doctrinal beliefs applied to the believer in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The phrase, New Covenant (Testament) was spoken by Christ at the Last Supper, and is claimed by Paul as the substance of the ministry to which he was called. He preached the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ for salvation. New Testament doctrines were primarily for the individual believers to be instructed and to learn how to live lives that would be pleasing to Father God. The Old Testament deals with the record of the calling and history of the Jewish nation, and as such it is the Old Covenant. The New Testament deals with the history and application of the redemption provided by the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross, and as such it is the New Covenant, which supersedes the Old.

There were many prophecies that were made in the old testament and fulfilled in the new. Telling about the Messiah was one. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies about his birth, and death.

For non christians maybe it would be better to read the OT first so they can see God's instructions for blood sacrifice is all pointed at Jesus Christ.. If you can't see that blood is a common thread between the Testaments You aren't trying very hard... Jim

Jesus fulfilled prophecies from the OT, but he cautioned us to expect more to come. He finished his work, but we have not finish ours, and the prophecies have not all been fulfilled.

However...

If you mean "How does the new covenant replace the old?" It does for those who accept Jesus as their personal savior. They are forgiven for their sins, not based on righteousness, but their faith and trust in God and his promises, and they have the opportunity to receive the Holy Spirit to empower them to live as Christ did.

The Prophets, prophesied a Messiah, messianic reams start in Genesis when God realises he needs to save his people (after adam and eve ate the fruit)

The O.T, is the foundation of the law of God, and Jesus takes it that step furhter to say don't even go there in your thoughts, do not entertain thoughts of murder, do not entertain lustful thoughts about your neighbours wife... etc...

the OT also sets up Jesus genealogy. (there is heaps more...)

Actually it is Christ who fulfilled the Law of the OT. He said, "do not think that I came to destroy the law. . .but to fulfill it". (Matt. 5:17)
