mutualmuse2000 -- Thank you for your thoughtful reply. This is why I got onto Yahoo Q & A, in order to interact with thinking people like yourself. There are too many insincere in the world.

Why America? God relates to every nation, as well as families, and individuals. This idea is a product of Bible study.

At this point in time, America is in a unique position on the planet. We are the world leader in many areas for better or worse. We stand apart from Europe in many meaningful ways.

Egypt was virtually destroyed from withing when it was at the height of it's power after the Jewish slaves escaped.

Some believers on here have given some very insightful clues as to what is keeping back God's judgment on this nation. There is a lot to be judged for. Why the US? Because the Chrisitians who are participaing in our societies sins, and condoning them know better.

Well Realchurchhistorian, in your research you must have come upon a point where it said God works in mysterious ways. To those who believe in that they have no right to question. To those of us who do have questions that we dare ask, your question is a fascinating one.

I guess my answer to you is more questions. Why just upon America? Are we so arrogant that we think that if there is a God, that this God thinks only of Americans? Or that at least God thinks of us first? That because we have the biggest weapons that this will empress an entity that caused the universe to exist, and all those that we have yet to discover?

I'm an American and I hope that God if this wonderful spirit does exist thinks of us a work in progress, and is curious to see what we may do next.

Don't know if I really go along with the " holding back " reflection you posted yet I think I see what your asking.

My reply is...It's not time yet. There is still revealing and unfolding taking place. The " storm before the calm ". Even with all the " sad " experiences occurring..There is some serious work going on.

It's written...' watch not the door nor the hour...yet be ever in the presence of the Light '. It's been years since I've read the bible...my quote is not exact so please forgive me that...yet you get the gist of it.

The main reason, I believe is because we are the only ones who stand with Israel. That may not last too much longer, though, after Bush leaves office. Also, it's not time yet. God will determine that Himself. The harvest has to be ripe.

Why are YOU trying to second guess what God is thinking, or holding back; or not holding back. Are you real special and deserve also to be all knowing? Your question seems hateful to me. What are YOU doing to make the world a better place, I hope a lot. Perhaps you should do more, however, to fill all the extra time you seem to have which you are devoting to figuring out what God is going to do.

What if God judges individuals instead of nations? Could you imagine God judging Iraq when it was under Saddam? The vast majority were helpless against Saddam's whims and shouldn't be punished for what he chose to do.

Same should go for America: Better to judge an individual whom can control their own actions instead of gobbing them together by a flag.

His patience is waiting for people to come to repentance.
But His judgment on the world is scheduled.

He is biding His time until Jesus is ready to return. Also, He wants to give as many people as possible a chance to believe on the death and Resurrection of His Son! Thanks for the question and have a great day!

I think the non-existence of god is a major obstacle which must be overcome on the road to judgement.

Oh, and why pick on America? There is the rest of the world too, if you remember.

1) There is no god 2) if there is then s/he doesn't get involved in politics, that's strictly a human folly. 3) if s/he did get involved in politics, I am sure s/he would have destroyed the US when the US was stealing North America from the Indians and endorsing an evil institution called slavery. Today's America is no where as evil as when we were stealing from the Indians and murdering them and had slavery. You can't get worse than that.
