I've suffered with migraines most of my life. Imitrex is really helpful. It's almost a miracle pill. You should take it at the first sign of a headache. But it is very, very expensive. It costs about $260 for 9 pills. So needless to say, I only take them when I get a severe headache. The doctor also gave me Topamax to help prevent them, and it does help, but he doesn't want me to take Topamax anymore b/c I got a kidney stone. But honestly, a migraine hurts worse than a kidney stone and my stone was too large to pass & I had to have surgery to remove it. Good luck.

I have suffered from migraines due to the fact I used to be 10 years historic-I am now 50 so I have had forty years revel in. I do realize somewhat approximately them. First, you'll have a migraine at any time. There isn't any set sample-I have long past months or even years with no need a unmarried migraine. There are many migraine triggers. Hormones play a tremendous side. That is why ladies undergo from migraines three instances greater than guys. A week earlier than your interval is the worst time. I determined that start manage drugs helped me. Also, sinus disorders and allergy symptoms as good as sizzling climate can cause migraines. Certain meals can be a cause-chocolate and sugar are the quantity one million offenders. Cheese too can do it. Watch your pressure degree too. Ask your Doctor approximately the triptan medicines comparable to imitrex and maxalt. These are very potent-they're highly-priced despite the fact that. I have determined that two steady excedrin works beautiful well quite often-the trick is to take treatment earlier than your headache will get to dangerous. Good success.

I was getting migraines weekly when my doctor put me on Nortriptylin. It was actually a very good "preventative". But the problem with using preventative meds is that you eventually need to keep upping the dose. My migraines then got worse and I was put on topomax (another preventative). This was the worst decision of my life, I had side effects so bad I could not get out of bed, which I have heard is very common. After trying A Lot of preventatives I was no longer afraid to face the migraine head on. I have learned to pay attention to my "triggers" and use Maxalt. It is part of a class of meds called the Trypts. another one is imitrex. Maxalt is my life saver and has the fewest chance of side effects (which I get easily). I have also been told that you can try to abort a migraine coming on by taking Tylenol and drinking alot of gatorade. If after 20min that hasnt worked then use Maxalt or such.
I don't know if you meant in your question that you have a persistant migraine, or reoccuring. If you have had a persistant one, then it is called a "Status migraine" and you need medical attention. SInce a migraine is when the blood vessels in your head swell, the migraine needs to seize in under 48 hours. If not you would need a steriod injection to stop the swellling. If the migraine ever gets bad enough you can go to the ER and get a shot of Demerol (works like magic!) The only other thing I can suggest is a cold compress on the back of your neck (where the blood vessels are dialating)
If you are getting migraines more than 2x a month than you should get a prevantive. They were not the best for me but I know it makes life a lot easier on people who can handle the meds. ALso, you should be seeing a neurologist for migraines not a DMD.
Good luck!

I have been a migraine sufferer for over 13 years and have tried many meds; Imitrex, Amerge, Zomig, Maxalt. The one that worked the best for me was Frova. If I am caught away from the house and my meds, I also find that taking 4 Advil (ibruprofen) and 2 Excedrin Extra Strength will help alleviate some of the pain until I can get to my Frova. If you are a chronic sufferer, you could also ask to be put on the anti-seizure medication Topamax. I understand that this works well for chronic sufferers. My doctor did not want to put me on that because it can be hard on the liver and I was already taking a drug for a separate problem that was already a liver compromiser. Good Luck.

The only thing I take that works is Excedrine Migraine. I take two at a time but you have to take it as soon as it's coming on. If it is really bad I take three. Good luck, I know how bad they can be.

My daughter suffers from migraines. When she gets them we give her tylenol, and make her drink lots of water. We discovered she wasn't drinking enough water and that was causing her migraines. It sounds gross, I know, but vomiting usually helps her tremendously. I suggest you analyze what your eating, if you are getting migraines consistently you could be having a reaction. : )
