To some, a "role" is "woman should do this and not do that, man should do this and not do that". In many cultures including our own, it's seen as unmanly for a male to be clean or to have been taught to clean his room. What is so hard for men to understand that when they learn this, they are the most desirable men among others. I have a daughter, and a son, and I treat each equally. My daughter helps clean up, and from the entire family's example, including my husband, even he at the age of 16 months hands me stuff from the floor or wherever he is.

And what don't some men in our religion get about following Islam? No, it's not our duty to clean up after you and cook for you. IF we choose to, Islam considers it a charity to you and you are not to complain about it nor demand or give orders about it. The Prophet (PBUH) did almost everything on his own and he had the toughest job, so how about you emulate that since prayer is already established?

Some men are just choosing to follow the culture of their country instead of Islam. It's really sad but remember not all Muslim men are like that.

Great point...
I always say that Islam never told the woman to be the only responsible for cleaning, cooking,...etc... and it was demended that man and woman have to share the responsibilty and if he doesn't want to work then he has to provide a servant to do so...that's true.. but unfortunately many Muslim men disgard this fact and claim that it is only the woman responsibilty...
ISLAM is a great religion if we as followers committ to its teachings...

Peace!

sure, take a seem on the Catholic faith. Catholics conflict with this alot. clergymen are male. not very earlier ladies could desire to not serve on the Altar, it replaced into altar boys purely. In Catholic marriages there are nevertheless specific roles for the guy and the spouse. the different Christian Faiths selection in this too. some are greater liberal interior the jobs (lady minsters) and a few are even stricter (women individuals not allowed to vote at Church conferences).

In Islam, it's husband's duty to provide his wife all the facilities to maintain household items like what you have mentioned here, or to hire some for such purposes.
Wife is not obliged to do this all, just to feed the infant and play her role in development of the good personality of children as per the teachings of Islam.
I'm working in Middle east, and see Arabs are the one who provide all facilities to their wives as per Islam, but our culture in Indo-Pak, contradicts it, that must be reconsidered.

I think being un-dependant is a goal which everyone would like to achieve. If a person (male or female) is able to care about him/herself both at home (homeworks and taking care of "human's chickens" -children/babies-) and outside home (having a job in order to develop their skills and earn money), I think he/she is on the way of SELF REALIZATION and could feel "free" and "happy" and a good example for others. INNER PEACE to all of Us.

Sadly, I find that the more religious a man is (this is just in my experience), the more he expects his woman to follow traditional roles.

I know it doesn't come from religion, but it's certainly a "symptom" so to speak.

(And I'm referring to all religions, not any specific one)

A lady approaches her priest and tells him "Father, I have a problem. I have two female talking parrots, but they only know how to say one thing."
"What do they say?" the priest inquired.
"They only know how to say, 'Hi, we're prostitutes. Want to have some fun?'"
"That's terrible!" the priest exclaimed, "but I have a solution to your problem. Bring your two female parrots over to my house and I will put them with my two male talking parrots whom I taught to pray and read the bible. My parrots will teach your parrots to stop saying that terrible phrase and your female parrots will learn the joys of praise and worship."
"Thank you!" the woman responded.
The next day the woman brings her female parrots to the priest's house. His two male parrots are holding the rosary beads and praying in their cage. The lady puts her two female parrots in with the male parrots and the female parrots say "Hi we're prostitutes, want to have some fun?"
One male parrot looks over at the other male parrot and exclaims, "Put the beads away, brother. Our prayers have been answered!"
