I found out yesterday that I have HPV. I do not know what level I am at yet (I will know more after my biopsey on Thursday). I've had to tell my boyfriend that I have it.

He is a mess...pissed off, sad, doesn't know what to do. I think I haven't helped at all because I am frantic too and I told him before I knew more about this.

His biggest concern is that if it goes untreated for him...will it get worse?

I am more concerned for him than for me. It's my fault because I gave it to him...I feel so horrible that I just wanna curl up in a ball and die in a cave...

Please...anyone who can help me with trying to ease my boyfriends mind, that would be great help!! Please ONLY serious answers.

I would really appreciate websites. I've told him the basics about it but it would be really great to hear stuff from other men who have it.

Please!! I am so desperate to ease his mind somehow...in some way...

He did not give it to me. He got tested a month or two before we started dating and he was clean.

This website is more for you than your boyfriend. Learning more about HPV will help you ease your boyfriends concerns.

He does share your HPV types but he also could have brought other HPV types into your relationship. He will most probably share your HPV types if he enters a new relationship.

HPV screening is not included in STI testing.

Your Pap showed abnormal cell changes and your HPV showed that you are positive for one or more high risk HPV types.

High risk HPV many never show as visible sign for the male and it is rarer that a male develops problems due to the virus. HPV is linked to penis cancer and a male can develop oral cancers due to a progressive HPV infection HPV is linked to anal cancer in both the male and female. You can't treat genital HPV until it shows as a visible sign genital wart or lesion of the cervix.

Your boyfriend should see a dermatologist and see if he has any small flat warts that are often missed with our eyes. The only test that the doctor can do is the vinegar wash. He will soak guaze in vinegar and wrap his penis with the soaked gauze leave it on for a few minutes and then exam his penis under magnification . This is the only test that a doctor can do for the male. If he is not showing any signs he can't be treated but this doesn't mean he doesn't carry HPV. If his doctor does seen anything then they can treat the virus.

There is no cure for HPV virus we can only treat the manifestation that the virus can cause. Many people carry the virus and never know they carry it.

Genital warts if left untreated can progress, can regress or stay the same.

Here is some info on HPV in the male.

Masculine side of HPV: Human papillomavirus is common in men too. Studies are underway to determine if a male vaccine is needed.

There is no FDA approved test for the male.
Most men with HPV don't have any symptoms and so diagnosing HPV in men is difficult. Since there is no treatment for asymptomatic HPV, most men are not treated. It is possible for men to think they have no symptoms when they actually do. Sometimes a medical provider can see small warts that have gone unnoticed, particularly if they are right inside the opening of the penis.
Men and women should stop having sexual contact as soon as they know or think they have genital warts and they should seek treatment immediately.

First of all, you may not have given it to him, he could have given it to you. Men can have HPV and not have ANY symptoms-so can women. Just because your test came back positive because you went in first does not mean it came from you.
I would make sure that he goes in and gets tested, then a doctor can tell him what he needs to do. I know some STD's can cause infertility if they go untreated, I am not sure about HPV though. Send him to see the doctor-and remember that if you both have had previous partners it could have been from either one of you. Quit having unprotected sex, things could be alot worse!

For you, it will get worse if not treated. For your boyfriend, not at all. HPV causes cervical cancer in women; since guys don't have a cervix, it doesn't pose any risk to them at all. The only reason for a guy to be concerned is if they start having sex with other women (hopefully not in your bf's case) - but they can pass the virus to women. So, the only person your bf needs to worry about is you; he should be perfectly fine. I hope yours turns out well... if you caught it early enough, you really shouldn't have to many problems from it.

He did not get tested for HPV, there is no such test for men. It is entirely possible he gave it to you. You should get it treated, as it can lead to cervical cancer.

A large percentage of sexual active people have been exposed to HPV. It is not uncommon, you are not a bad person.

Of course it can get worse if not treated. It's not as if you gave this to him on purpose you could have been infected for quite a while and did not even know. Any chance you got this from your current boyfriend and he's just denying it?
