Be prepared for poop! Lol.
You sound like a good foster mom or dad to this lucky puppy.
Here is what I think happened. The pupcame with you and was very scared of his new surroundings. Survival instinct made him eat as much as he could- (he doesnt know yet that food will come again). He is keeping it in as long as possible and trying to gauge you and his new home.
Stay on you own routine as much as possible. Take him out to encourage him to do his jobs (pee and poop) and show him where to do it.
Dont get mad if he doesnt do it yet. Put lots of newspapers. Remove anything he can chew .
Toilet training may be easy and you might be one of those lucky enough to get a perfect dog. Or you may be one of all of the rest of us.
Leave a bowl of water and a bowl of food in the same place at the same approximate times.. After he trusts you that much, he will relax a bit and try to fit into your life..

Nose wetness really does not have anything to do with the health of your pet. Now, if there is discharge actually coming from the nostrils, that is a different story.
Remember, your puppy is in a completely new environment and will take at least several days to feel comfortable. The best thing to do is take him to your veterinarian (if you do not have one yet, please check the AAHA - American Animal Hospital Association - website for an accredited vet in your area) for an initial check up. At three months of age, your puppy will need a Rabies vaccination and other vaccine boosters. It is also necessary to start him on heartworm and flea preventions.
Congratulations on your new addition and good luck!

I have the same problem with my dog, she is 7 months. I tried to give her one of these pills they sell at pet stores for this problem but it did not work. I asked the vet and she said that these pills usually don't work and there is not much I can do about it. She said it is not bad for the pet to eat the feces, it is just disgusting for us... So I just need to keep an eye on her. She learned to go potty outside only, so as soon as she poops I pick it up. I keep her in the leash when I go outside,so she won't do anything disgusting... If she tries to eat it, I have to punish her. She's been doing much better... I think little by little she's learning that I don't like that. You just need a lot of patience....

Dry nose doesn't mean anything.... HOWEVER I would be very careful with the over eating. Dachshunds will eat till they drop. I'm not sure if your dog is shaped more like a Doxie.. but if it is, your dogs weight is very important. Doxies are long with no support in the middle. You can potentially cause spinal damage if you don't monitor your dogs weight and food intake. Put your dog on a schedule for eating and portions of food.

All animals eat excessively the instant you bring them home. His nose isn't wet because he is scared, and timid.
