if a simple farm boy can write a book that is "allegedly" another bible, & manages to include many references obscure names listed in the bible itself. & within just over 200 years of his birth, the LDS church is one of the fastest growing religions, WORLD WIDE! if the Book of Mormon is a fraud, how come nobody else has even come CLOSE to creating such a phenomenon. i would think there are at least a dozen college professors (& average people who who would LOVE to turn organized religion (or maybe just Christianity) on it's head. but i say again, how come nothing has been done? or if has been done, why has it not overcome the writing of that poor farm boy with little schooling?

though i was born & raised in the LDS religion, i see myself more of an agnostic with an ever growing list of questions. this is one of the more thoughtful ones.

freebird, yes there are plenty of religions that have come up, but again, within it's timespan, the LDS church has grown more than most, if not all other religions.

billystinkfinger, if it's so full of lies. then write a more "fact filled" one then. that's what i'm trying to get at, is that no one else has come even close! there are a plenty of "smarter people" than joseph smith Jr, yet the closest thing to a religious uproar we've had since the publication of the Book of mormon is The Divinci Code, & THAT'S CLEARLY PUT IN THE FICTION SECTION OF BOOKSTORES... NOT RELIGIOUS TEXTS!

I really appreciate your open mind on this. I am LDS, and I am willing to have an open mind on this too.

I think the only other book and religion that has seem to do the same thing is the Quran and Islam. Now for me, I believe The Book of Mormon is the work of God, and I am also willing to believe the Quran was the work of God because I know Hagar's son (who is considered the Abrahamic link to Islam) was promised many great blessings for his seed from God. And I think God has kept his promise by bringing about the Quran as a "lesser law" or "preparatory law" much as God did through Moses in the Old Testament.

I recognize that there are many aspects of my faith which are also practices of "lesser law" such as tithing instead of consecration.

I think God knows what He's doing, "A marvelous work and a wonder" in preparing all His children, all over the world, to get ready for the next step in higher laws, to get ready to really know Him, and to know His plan and will for us. He knows each of us personally, and He knows what the next "little step" is for each of us, we just have to have the courage and use our agency to actually take that step.

Best wishes

At least 500 major religions have come and gone in the past 4000 years, not counting all the "splinter groups". Mormonism is just the latest, and won't be the last.

And many grew far faster than the 200 years it took LDS (so far). Especially if growth is measured as a percentage of the exposed population. And if you consider mormonism as a separate religion from Chrisitanity, then other christian "breakout" faiths such as protestantism and Southern Baptist grew considerably faster.

The Book of Mormon has been proven to be a total fraud time and time again. Ask any non LDS Meso-American Historian or Archaeologist if any proof has ever been found to support the BoM and they unanimously say NO! Even LDS Historians and Archaeologists have been ex-communicated for telling the truth that the BoM is a fairytale. Why do you think nobody ever heard of Nephites, Lamanites, Jeredites, Cureloms, ect. ect. ect.

The Church cant even come up with a map to put in the back of the BoM so the faithful can follow along with the stories. Any Bible has detailed maps telling all about the places and events that happened in Biblical times yet the Bom cant even find any of the big places like the City of Nephi or Land of Zarehimla or anything else.

Thats because Joseph Smith made the whole thing up . The Bom is the laughingstock of the Meso American scientific community because they know it is a total hoax

All the time, along with Denny's and NBC..... "One of the 20 books that changed America"...FOR A NEGATIVE REASON! What always makes me laugh is that a book called "Common Sense" is in the list as well.

well lets see, you have to know a little about magic, he would have had to have help in the magic department, that thing couldn't have come out of thin air. he was sorely uneducated, so witchcraft was involved and the angel he saw was not of God, so it was of something else, again, black magic, demonic, I would say. Being a treasure hunter and his mom being into witchcraft and he taking the word of God and twiting it for his own means, by trying to mix witchcraft and god, like wicca/christian like kids do today, it is possible that he became a candidate for the forces tht wanted him. He was also a freemason as well.
Jehovah witnesses are also based on other scriptures, so the person was a candiditate for that religion by whatever means as well.

How come the book of mormon is full of outright lies?

I forget who did it but about ten years ago I read a critique on it and it said the entire book was written through the perspective of an early 19th century person. It mentions things like the native Americans had steel armor and rode in chariots and such. It was not commonly known at that time that native Americans did not have metal implements, and had not utilized the wheel other than as a symbol and to make toys.

Both archaeology and DNA sampling has proven without a doubt that the book of mormon is completely fictional.

I write six Books of Mormon every day before breakfast.

You don't think people are going to fall for this argument, do ya? Cults catch on. If you're trying to validate something on the ground that it's popular, why not Scientology? Why not Kaballah? Why not the Hare Krishnas?

B the way, I read the Book of Mormon. Some guy at my school gave me a copy and I read it. It's a cute little piece of nonsense.

1 - Smith wasn't uneducated, just not formally educated.
2 - Venal Holley (a mormon) has shown BoM names with corresponding NY, Pennsy and Ontario place names.
3 - The 'fastest growing' aspect has been shown false and misleading by the Census Bureau and other information gathering sources. This remains a mormon myth.
4 - Better documents would include:
The US Constitution and Common Sense (Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine)
The Qu'ran (Mohammed)
The Oahspe (John Newbergh)
The Urantia Book (Unknown)
Anything by William Shakespeare

As far as fantasy:
The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkien)
The Dune Trilogy (Frank Herbert)
Ringworld and Protector (Larry Niven)
LeMorte D'Arthur (Sir Thomas Malory)
Beowulf

Your rant is sophomoric, immature and does little to promote mormons as a learned people; in fact it does the opposite: You appear merely to thump more "books" than Ted Haggard but have only half as much integrity.

The world has need of willing men to make complete jackas$es of themselves. Carry on, bucko.
