They say that God is everywhere, and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse.
— Emily Dickinson

God, we know you are in charge, but why don't you make it slightly more obvious?
— Archbishop Desmond Tutu

If God exists, what objection can he have to saying so?
— Lemuel K. Washburn

What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job. [as compared to say having the Virgin Mary or Jesus appear in a tortilla, tree stump, glass window, water-damaged ceiling tile, or grilled cheese sandwich]
— Carl Sagan

I guess the 'hiddenness' of God is a necessary part of the purpose for which he created human beings, shaping and forming them in a world in which he is not immediately obvious. If the God of the Bible is the true God, however, then he has not been silent. He has spoken again and again through the prophets of the Old Testament, through his son Jesus and through the Church. Christians experience him speaking to their hearts (though I accept that this is a subjective experience).

A world in which God openly revealed himself to everyone is hard to imagine. How would a world like that work? What would happen to the people who rejected him (as some undoubtely would)? Would he blaze forth in a flash of glory every now and again or would we always be able to see him, like the sun? How would that affect the way we lived?

If this world is a 'vale of soul-making', where qualities like patience, love, courage and self-sacrifice are formed, then it's hard to imagine it being any other way than it is - with God apparently silent and hidden most of the time.

God is not a silent God. Most just explain away or, rationalize His voice! And, for others, they just simply refuse to accept that He is real! God should not have to prove His existance to anyone!

If people were more receptive, you would have two pages of answers by now. It is through prayer that I can feel and hear Him the best. When I am not thinking about everything else in my life, and in prayer, I can feel His presence too. It is a peace that I cannot "conjure" up! It is a place where, in my stillness, the answers are made clear to me.

God awaits those who seek Him! It is not something just for a few! It is for all who will hear and see.

I do not believe that God took a vow of silence. He is everywhere, and he speaks to me on a regular basis. Maybe not in so many words, as you or I speak, but He speaks in
the memory of my mother and dad, in the flowers that bloom in my yard, in the trees that spring forth and first spread their leaves, then blooms and then fruit.
i believe God is everywhere, and in my heart. I feel His presence when I make a decision, when I am tempted and know that to follow my thoughts is wrong.
I believe God is here when I look at my kids, and my grand kids who are the result of the miracle of birth.
I believe God speaks to me in so many ways, and I know He is with me.
Every morning, I wake up, and thank God for giving me another day, and ask Him what he has in store for me, today. Every night, I thank Him for allowing me to have one more day. Yes, I do believe God speaks to us every day, in every way. The only catch is that we MUST be able to hear Him.!

Isaiah 1:13-15
"Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations— I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen."

Isaiah 58:2-4
For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them. 'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?' "Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high."

Actually I know you mean to be funny (i think)

This actually happened to me, for a while God didn't speak - I couldn't feel Him no matter how hard I pressed in.

In those times we learn closeness with God and Faithfulness, paitence all those other tough fruits of the Spirit. We learn to be obedient with out the closeness...

You obviously have never seen Children of Eden.

God stopped talking to humans initially after casting Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden. He came back shortly to talk with Cain and Abel, and then after Cain killed Abel, he put a mark on Cain and all his progeny and didn't speak to humans again.

Probably because when they asked God why he took a vow of silence they got no answer from God and therefore couldn't tell you what you wanted to know.

If I told you you were to got a trillion dollars 450yrs./ from now you wouldn't care...

Time and space is nothing with God in relation to eternity.

God rarely in the bible reveals himself..

However God can be revealed in you....

God is not silent.
You just have to learn to listen instead of standing on a soapbox.
