And why does it seem like their followers in general don't blow things up or do things like shoot doctors? What about their religion makes them not have any crazy extremist in their ranks?

There are some nutters in every religion, and there used to be some nutters in that religion some time back but I agree they have calmed down and adopted there religion better then any of us have managed to do so. There religion teaches peace and harmony just like all the other religions but they have come to realize that trying to convert people is not going to do any GOOD.. anyway I like Buddhist people, they are so peaceful they give you think sense of peace even if your not Buddhist your self.

I regret to say you do not know much about either religion. Let me assure that all religions seek converts and all religions have extremist elements. I have had quite a few Buddhists attempt to convert me. Similarly,a Hindu teacher named Sri Prabupod came to this country in 1965 to advance Hinduism; he became the founder of the Hare Krishnas. Fanatical? Well,Buddhist monks have been known to immolate themselves to protest government actions they see as antipathetic to their cause, and Hindus are quite capable of fighting a holy war. I think you idealize religions of the east - a common aspect of urban life in America.

Hindu men used to burn widows (ALIVE) along with their dead husbands. So much for that argument. Oh, and they used to use this extremely hot spoon on one's tongue to determine if one was lying- if the tongue scalded, then the poor man/woman was just about dead.

Because we are spiritual people. Each individual needs to find their own path to God, and that is understood, so we don't go around pushing our beliefs onto others. It's very nice of you to bring up this topic. =)
