an infection picked up by another person or pet.Humans can get pink eye from dogs or cats but not the other way around according to my vet.Also contacts or contaminated makeup can cause it.It is contagious and requires diligent hand washing.

Call the Dr's office ...they usually have a emergency number, when they are not in. If it bothers you that much-call. Maybe you don't have the flu and have a really bad sinus infection, which is bacterial and that can cause bacterial conjunctivitis, which you will need drops to clear it up.

It is a viral infection mostly though other causes as listed in the webmd reference can't be ruled out.
Can be treated through modern medicine or homeopathy also.
