A friend wants to find his half brother, but we don't know his first name. He was born about 1960 in Memphis. His mother(maiden name Lopez) died in late 1961 or in 1962. The baby was placed with mothers relatives in Arkansas. The baby's last name was either Lopez or Price. His fathers name was Earl Price. That is all we know.

If it is okay with you, I will take what information you have here and see what I can find out. Your profile says you do not allow instant messages or email, so maybe you can email me privately, and when I find out what I can, I can send it to you. I have traced my Mother's side of the family back to the 1700's so far, and have done a friend's back to his 14th great-grandfather on his father's side and 12th great-grandfather on his mother's side. My email address is given on my profile.
Oh, what is your friend's name?? It might help. :)

IF...and it's a real if...your friend knows his brother's actual date of birth, he can request a copy of his brother's birth certificate. That will give you more information on the mother to help you find her family.

If that doesn't work, then your brother can request a copy of his father's marriage license to the brother's mother. That will give you the names of her parents and the town of her birth.

If none of that works, then the pickings get slimmer. You can try to find the mother's obituary and see if her family members are listed. But you'll need to at least know her name to find that.

Hiring an investigator may cost a lot of money and you may well not get a result. Write letters to newspapers giving as much information as possible and try websites like www.genforum.com which allow you to post on boards for each surname and also each state.

Good luck. I hope your friend finds his missing half brother

Try the Tennessee vital records office--you can obtain death certificates for about $7.00. You can also try a search through a genealogy website.
