A person who is asexual has no sexual desire nor are they sexually attracted to anyone, male or female.

I am asexual myself, and I have seriously considered enlisting in the military. Originally I thought I had nothing keeping me from doing so (the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy only applies to homosexuals and bisexuals, and I am neither), however, I realized something else.

Many people consider a lack of a sex drive to be a sexual or psychological dysfunction. I see my lack of attraction as a sexual orientation rather than a problem, but I know most people don't have this view.

I'm otherwise perfectly eligible to join the military: I am very healthy and fit physically, mentally and emotionally. During the physical and/or psyche exams, will my asexuality be an issue? Also, will it be acceptable to openly acknowledge the fact that I have no interest in sex?

I know I won't be forced into anything, my main concern is that many people I told this to view asexuality as a mental disorder, akin to how people used to think of gays and lesbians.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about. Noone in the military will force you to have sex nor desire to. There is no policy which says you must desire sex. The individuals you decide to tell this to, may find it a bit wierd but they won't try to prosecute you or throw you out because of it.

Considering that most people find sex to be a highly pleasurable thing, they aren't likely to understand that you have no desire for it. Just like people who like chocolate don't understand why someone wouldn't like it. You don't have to tell them you aren't interested just as one doesn't have to tell the world if they don't like chocolate. If you choose to tell them, that's up to you. Just don't be surprised that they don't understand that you could not desire it when they find it so wonderful.

I do not see any reason you would not be able to join the military. Being asexual is not unusual. You are not attracted to either sex, so there is no criteria for that question. If they were to ask, you are not bi sexual, homosexual, or heterosexual. The closest answer would be that you are heterosexual. Why would anyone care if you had no sexual interest anyhow? Go for it. You are a true person. Take care. Best of luck to you.

Of course you could make the mistake and enlist to be killed for no real reason in Iraq. Being asexual certainly isnt a problem for the warmongers.

You might have some problem with your macho comrades, who will want to discuss sex all the time. Which is quite normal amongst soldiers and can be extremely annoying.

The only thing they're going to tell you upon enlistment is that you can't marry or engage in sexual acts with the same sex. Neither of which applies to you. You're comrades might make fun of you if they found out, but if you tell them it's your religion they'll leave you alone.

The in all probability hood of you having the flexibility to connect is small, by way of fact the militia already has sufficient non-past service recruits. past service gets the shaft on the grounds which you value the militia greater, do to having to apply your service time from earlier for pay purposes. the main suitable guess is to flow to the recruiter's workplace and ask nevertheless.
