There are pagans and there are Taoists. I think those who are mixing them are just trying to create a religion to suit themselves. Has nothing to do with the truth.

Taoism is flexible and open enough to be combined with any other "religion".
You can be a pagan taoist (although some people consider Taoism to be a pagan path anyway, so a pagan taoiest is a bit redundant.). You can be a Shintoist-Taoist (many are) or a Buddhist-Taoist.
You could even be a Christian Taoist (although not a Fundamentalist Christian Taoist).

OMG I've become a target of ad hominem insults! Does this mean I'm finally famous?
I love you!!!!
It means that my spiritual philosophy, and path of study at the moment, is Taoism, but I celebrate pagan holidays and practice pagan rituals, because I like the symbolism and because it speaks to me.
This is not at all incompatible with Taoism since Taoism doesn't speak of rituals, symbols, or practices, being a very non-administrative religion. In fact Taoism is cool with the practitioner being any faith and a Taoist, because in Taoism all deities and whatnot are simply metaphors for aspects of the Tao. Once upon a time it wasn't uncommon for the Chinese to be a Buddhist, a Confusicanist, and a Taoist. There was even a saying, "Three paths, One Way". There is even ancient art depicting this idea.
Of course by some definitions Taoists are pagans by default because we don't belong to one of the three big monotheistic religions.
Still got a problem with it? Just chalk it up to someone who can't think inside boxes anymore. Philosophy will do that to a person. Is it ignorance? Beats me. Don't care. :-P

Pagan Taoist??? Dark Pagans sounds like what people would do if they didn't have any religious restrictions.
I see nothing wrong other than the idea that there in dark or negative energy! People direct neutral energy for either good or bad results. Oh well, live and learn.

What's wrong with a Pagan Taoist There's nothing in the scheme of either belief system that contradicts the other. I'm a Humanist whose understanding of the world and models for self improvement is enhanced by some of the teachings of Buddhism, Taoism and even Christianity (though more along the lines of the Jefferson Bible -- none of the mysticism.

Taoism is a philosophy and pagan a religion, so they have a belief system and a seperate set of principles to live by... this is completely possible and functional.
Buddhism can also function as a religious supplement... it is a set of principles and rules to live by where the goal is to learn and grow personally and independantly. There are many zen christians, etc...
If you trace your religion back in its history, I'm sure you'd find that it has swallowed other traditions from other cultures, such as christianity and paganism (christmas/solstice, jesus/mythilus etc.. etc..)
