well the dust and debris will clog your fuel injectors yes you will get more power yes you will get better fuel mpg but you will destroy your engine over time if you think about it air comes in there for combustion in the cylnders so if you have air and sand mixed you might as well be sandblasting your pistons cylnders and the rest of your engine wich will cause more wear and break down as far as louder the only way to do that is change your exaust flow master is good for that cheap hp and fuel mpg is a k@n air filter it is around 50 dollars but it last longer than a normal filter and you can recharge it so it will last about a million miles before it needs replacecd also mustang makes lots of after market bolt on parts to improve hp so the choice is yours more hp and fuel for a short time and destroy your motor or do it rite and save your motor and time hope this helps sincerly josh

The S197 cars will not increase power from a muffler swap. The stock system is designed to handle in the neighborhood of 400 HP before becoming a restriction. Adding the K&N filter will allow for a little more air under high RPM conditions increasing power slightly. If you get a cold air kit, you WILL need to tune the car with a tuner. The computers in the 05+ Mustangs are VERY sensitive to change but can make good power if you do the right mods. I recommend you do a search on some of the mustang forums out there. They all have sections for the S197 cars. Do some research and you will save lots of time and money. I also want you to know that YOU HAVE NOT VOIDED YOUR WARRANTY. Some people need to read the Moss Magnussen act. Might I recommend you join some forums on the internet and learn as much about your car as you can.

Wanna know....

Here is the absolute truth.....

After a while the engine will suck in dust and dirt and depending upon where you go, it can destroy it prety quick or take up to 50k miles to destroy the motor... (actually you will slowly loose compression over time as the cylinder is scarred unless it's a big ole chunk of something)

In the mean time, you will get a check engine light as the engine will be running bad at times (real noticeable on decel) and the codes will say the engine is running lean.. The Decel issue will be all the fuel that has to be adjusted for and the computer/ sensors not being able to compensate fast enough. and will have less gas mileage.. don't know about any more horses without having some fuel correction possibly in the form of a chip...

Plus will sometimes make a hooting noise from the air filter area....

Sorry to tell you that your engine would not run worth a darn if you took the air filter off. The reason being is that it is a integral part of the emission control system and is probably hooked up to the computer via vacuum lines and other stuff like that. Just leave it alone. You can however get a chip at a high performance shop or high perf software for it that can be downloaded into your cars computer. Good luck!

You'll gain hp but with the computer controls you'd be risking ruining your engine in two ways. Foreign debris entering the engine, and perhaps running the engine without the proper fuel/air mixture. The only increase in sound you might experience would be in a whooshing sound under the hood. There would be know increase in exhaust volume. If you switch to a CAI (cold air intake) you'll need a retune of the computer to maximize your output.

DONT REMOVE YOUR AIR FILTER

Your computer would immediately go into limp home mode. If you were to just remove the whole system, you would eliminate the mass airflow sensor... a vital component to keeping the car running properly. The computer uses this sensor to determine fuel meetering. Even replacing the system with a high flow system, you still need to tune the computer to allow for the increased airflow. Hint* The non-tuner cold air systems will put your air fuel ratio in the lean zone without a tune. Also, forget about a chip. The 05+ has to be tuned.

You run the risk of destroying the engine if sand, gravel, or other objects get into the intake. Thats why the filter is there, dude.
Consider a high-flow aftermarket filter like K&N if you wish, but driving with no filter will void your warranty.

probably nothing, but it's a bad idea...you get crap in the intake and this will affect your warranty...i agree with the other answer and recommend you get a high flow K&M air filter...it will not get louder and you will not get better fuel economy...what are you trying to do??

yes, to all of the above. Don't do it. Go with a cold air intake system. Don't suck all that dirt into the engine. good luck.
