On the cartoon "Inuyasha" Allot of the carechters practice some form of "magic" and i was wondering if some people in the buddhist faith are witches orif any practice witchcraft at all?

(and i do understand that the people of Japan are Shintoists aswell as buddhists, that is clear in the show "inuyasha")

Thanks!

We have shamans in Buddhism, we practice (if we've attained a certain level of understanding) tantra, but not "magic" per se.

Probably the most famous Buddhist "magician" in my tradition was Milarepa, who legend tells of as a powerful sorcerer who turned away from magic and toward the teachings of the Buddha, became enlightened himself and eventually became a great Tibetan saint. His story can be found at the following URL. A major motion picture has been made of his story. It was to be released on CD but has been picked up for theatrical release -- apparently they did a great job on the movie so I'm looking forward to it.

Hmmm, you are confused about reality, and cartoons. Not everything on TV is real! Buddhists do not practice magic! Magic is not real. Harry potter does not really exist! Anime is just a drawing.

Basically, with Buddhism, you can add whatever makes sense to you. Many Buddhists practice a wide variety of other beliefs along with Buddhism. The magic/witchcraft isn't actually a part of Buddhism, though.

The historical Buddha uses his teachings as an education to rid all of greed, hatred and delusions,he did not uses his powers to teach but by his deeds and speech,he showed by examples, not with words, he did not want to confuse his disciples because the demons have some of these powers too,so be aware of people who wants to win you over with these ablities.Buddhism is an education for us to live life as close to nature as possible.

It is more Shinto that is used in Inyuyasha and maybe a mix of the Shinto and Buddhism.
