There have been very many wars of religion, culture and tradition.
Intolerance is a very common human trait.
In a multicultural society a war based on belief would be a civil war. The only winners the arms dealers. Freedom would be the loser.
Perhaps we should investigate an alternative champion based system of conflict resolution? Have they done a "death-match" with the worlds religious leaders slugging it out for victory? Just think of the pay per view revenue that would bring in...

There were religious - based wars as long as there was an idea of an organized religion.
In the end - the innocent always die - the ending of every war.

My ex had a very interesting theory about this....although for his little scenario, it had already taken place between all of the old gods and the christian god. Basically his theory said that the old gods wore themselves out from fighting eachother (while the christian god just sat back and conserved his energy). When there was only one god left, the christian god came up and killed him with one blow because the old god was tired from fighting the others and had no strength to match a full out assult from a fully rested deity. Kinda funny.

Christians would win. You throw logic at them and it bounces right off, as if it had no power whatsoever. No amount of guns nor any kind of nuke will be able to defeat that kind of elasticity.
