lets see if i have this straight, so just because i'm a Christian, i've got a bigoted point of view, an "imaginary friend", and a "story book", and people get offended if i talk openly about my religion when i DO have the right, and even if they remove that right because they have a problem with it, doesn't have to stop me, just like it won't stop all the muslims, the mormons, the catholics, but oh, it's perfectly fine when they talk about THEIR religions but it's too offending to talk about Christianity???? COME ON PEOPLE!!!!! make up your minds!! alot of you probably think i'm being a hypocrite and all that crap, but it's a little hard not be if people are insisting you are anyway, even when you're not, even if you're stating a simple fact and saying something simple.....

Unfortunately, there will never be an end to the religious debate. People will always defend their opinions and beliefs, but not all will criticize you for yours. There will be plenty who will, but not all. I am also a Christian, and Jesus said it would be difficult for those who chose to follow Him. I will follow Him anyway. However, I absolutely will not judge others for their beliefs along the way. I was not given that right.

Well, you have the right to free speech, but you do not have control over someone's opinion of it. Do you speak openly about your religion with the expectation that no one will disagree, or make a value judgement of your words?

What you believe to be the truth is not evidence of truth. This is called relative truth, and is subject to scrutiny, opinion, and perspective.

You are defending your right to say what you believe, but doesn't someone have the right to express their opinion of what you believe? Why do you think that you are unfairly being suppressed? On this very forum, I have seen Catholics, Muslims, Hindus, Mormons, JW all being "ridiculed".

If you only speak to get agreement, this is the wrong place to do so. There are people who feel just as strongly that the bible is no more than a mythical story as you do that it is the holy word of God.

Who cares what other people think? If you feel compelled to reveal to the world what you believe, then how can you be attached to the results, which you have no control over? If what you say is truth, then "let them who have ears to hear, hear".

1. You *might* have a bigoted point of view. Many Christians do.

2. Yes, you have an imaginary friend.

3. The Bible is a storybook. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's a book with stories in it.

4. "Talk openly about my religion" is often fundie codespeak for "tell people that all those [expletive] gays and sinners and evolutionists are going to hell."

5. No one wants to get rid of your right to talk about your religion. What we *do* want is for your religion no longer to have a privileged place in society.

6. You mention Catholics and Mormons as distinct from Christians. I take back what I said in point #1.

No, the First amendment limits the federal government from getting involved. The provisions excluded the federal government are to be taken up by the States who then have full control. According to the first amendment the state can even have a state religion, which was so for many years after the Constitution was ratified. It is very necessary for there to be regulations on religion and free speech. Morally you should not be allow to murder in the name of religion, for example. Also as an example, defemation of character is immoral and should also be illegal. But these are the prerogative of the State government not the Fed.

Well I think, or at least would hope to think, that you are being too general. There are a lot of people who would fiercely defend the rights of the Christian to speak about their views. The only thing is that each group, and every group, has certain fanatics that ruin it for everyone.

Fanatical Atheists that think Christianity would be best if it was banned (as they have told me)
Muslims who kill non-Muslims or Muslims who are not Muslim enough
Christians who bomb abortion clinics and want Christianity the official religion of America and want Creationism taught in schools

These fanatical people are not representative of those religions.

Freedom of speech carries with it responsibility. No-one has the right to shout "Fire!" in a crowded theatre and then deny responsibility for the panic that follows. No one has the right to vilify others because of their race, religion, age, sexuality or disability. If so-called Christians practised the teachings of their religion we would not see sites like godhatesfags.com or many of the other bigoted, intolerant, hate-filled web sites and comments by these so-called "Christians".

You stop attacking people because of their sexuality or other differences and you might find that people will stop attacking you and your ignorant interpretation of Old Testament god-bothering. If you are a Christian, try reading the words of Christ and living your life according to them.

When you actively support oppressing others, YES you're bigotted, closed minded, and worse. You may have that right but other people also have the right not to be forcibly subjected to it. So you talk about your religion with people who care, and butt out of everyone elses lives about it, ok?

Um..Catholics are Christians. So are Mormons.
You have the freedom of speech to say what ever you want. Just don't be surprised when someone says something back. You want to talk hate about gay's don't be surprised when someone calls you bigoted!! You can have freedom of speech, but so does everyone else. Get over it.

You DO have freedom of speech. No one has to listen though. Most religions are shaded, in respect of viewing the world and the people in it. Just watch out for separation of church and state.

waaaahhhhhhhh! poor you! Look, if you want to exert your right to say whatever the hell you want to say including that all other religions are wrong, you need to expect people to be offended and come back at you. If you can't handle the answers, stop asking the questions!
