an excessive consumption of fruit along with an already high caloric intake could cause an increase in fat storage in some. but fruits contain very types of sugars not just one. and the sugars can also convert from one to another such as when a banana ripens the starches convert to soluble carbohydrates.

in terms of dieting just stick to low GI fruits in sensible portions and they will be a positive addition to the diet

There is way too much misinformation about sugar.

One form of sugar is not necessarily better than another (Just ask a diabetic). Sugar is sugar no matter what form it is in. Your body cannot tell the difference between cane sugar, beet sugar, brown sugar, fruit sugar, etc. All sugars are broken down into its simplest form called glucose. Glucose is the only form of sugar that the body and brain use.

The difference between the sugars is the amount of time it takes to break them down into glucose. Complex carbohydrates like pasta take hours while the fruit sugar may take minutes. Fruit sugar starts to breaks down when it comes in contact with saliva, complex carbohydrates break down only in the intestinal tract.

Your body can turn glucose into other forms of energy such as glycogen, which is sugar stored on the muscles and fat which, is stored throughout the body.

So the answer to your question - yes!

If you could eat just the sugars from fruit, yes, they could make you fat. However, fruits are full of fiber, which fills you up way before you can get enough of the sugars to worry about too much. That's one reason eating whole fruit is much better for you than drinking tons of fruit juice.

No, in fact for a healthy diet you're supposed to get your sugar from fruit because fruit contains natural sugars that your body responds to better in order to prevent sugar cravings throughout the day.

yes, it can. fructose is the sugar that is found in fruit, and it is used in the body just as glucose is.

of course in moderate portions you won't get fat, because you do need some sugar. but like everything in this world, too much of it is a bad thing.

How many calories are you ingesting vs. how many calories of energy are you expending in a day? Basically, anything you eat (including fruti) can make you fat if you eat more than you burn, but the good news about fruti is that most people who eat only fruit become full before they eat enough to make them fat.

it could but by the time you ate enough of it you will probably have some sort of vitamin poisoning....you CAN have too many vitamins but generally natural sugar is digested differently than processed sugar....but moderation is the key...you can get fat by eating too much no matter what it is or how healthy it is...if you take in more energy than you can expend, your body will store that energy as fat.....
