For some reason, religious people think their religion deserves some special respect, that other ideas don't merit.

They think I should respect their views, even if I disagree with them. But if I think ideas are stupid, irrational and dangerous, why should I respect them?

It's impolite to mock anyone, but religion should have no special status.

I may not agree with what you say, but I accept your right to say it .....as long as you then accept my right to say that you're talking horseshit.

Man burnt witches, not religion, they did it in the name of religion but no where does it say in the Bibles NT that we should be the judge on who lives and who dies on this planet. The Bilble does not say the sun revolved around the earth, once again, it was man, I do beleive it was how science started influencing the church.

Do not look at Religious people as perfect, no one is. People make mistakes, mistakes that seem so crazy looking back.

Im not asking you to respect religion, just respect yourself and your relationship with God.

Bless You!

It is interesting that people equate the actions of a minority and blame the majority. These were the closed minded few who made some press because of their poor actions and reactions to things.

People forget the great strides made by some "religous" people. Christopher Columbus had some serious faults, but, he read a scripture about "the circle of the earth" and with other theory about the horizon, set out to prove the earth was round. George Washingon Carver found over 300 uses for peanuts and their oil. Many of our benevolent societies/organizations were borne out of what the Church was doing to help the poor, needy and sick. There were many Christians who hid Jews during Hitlers reign of terror.

Yes, accused witches were tortured, burned and/or drowned. Those who did this were not many and they were wrong. Those who stubbornly held that the sun revolved were eventually proven wrong and their ideas were eventually no longer valid.

So, if you want to laugh and mock me because I chose to believe and accept the truth of God's word and follow Him as Lord, fine. But, to include me in a small group of ignorant, bigoted, scientifically inept and close-minded people would be prejudice and ignorant on your part. I am a respectful family man who is not afraid to listen to anothers viewpoint and I try to be careful not to act in ignorance toward anyone of a different belief even if I am convinced they are not correct. Most (a majority of) people I have known in over 30 years of being a Christian are of like-mindedness in such regards.

Many years before witches were being burned, pagans were killing Christians and even took their children along for a fun day out. They built huge arenas for that purpose and hired huge armies to seek out more and more Christians to satisfy the blood lust. It was recorded time and time again that Christians would often pray for their tormentors, as they were being killed in the most sadistic ways. Many people became believers because they saw the reality of God in those who were being persecuted, even although they knew they may face death themselves. I have a Christian heritage that I am proud of. I don't see anything funny in mocking anyone of true belief. When you mock the believer, you also mock the God.

I have to add to this, it's exactly the same spirit that mocked and laughed at little children being torn to shreds by dogs that is laughing and mocking today.

Why would you want to "mock the religious?" Both the Shoshone and eastern Arapaho are deeply religious, though they did not as a matter of course "burn witches", or claim "the sun revolved around the earth and too many other examples to mention here."

You might want to rethink your position.

I think that it is felt by many people "wrong" to mock religion because they are hedging their bets. They say they dont believe but deep down they are worried that it could in fact be true and when they die they wont go to heaven, which is a better concept than just not existing any more. I emphasise the word "believe" because that is what it is .You believe or have faith in a concept. This does not make it true. I constantly believe that i will win the lottery. Nuff said.

It is called respect. Whether they are right or not. It is not for you to mock and disrespect others for what they believe. You wouldn't like to be mocked for whatever you believe, religion or other wise. Would you! and neither does anyone else. It is just a matter of Just respect.

Live and let live. If they are wrong whomever they are. give them some respect. Is that to much to ask for. Whether they believe in the Torah, the Bible or the Quran or any other faith.

Those so called examples are from the far past. Would you join us in the present! Respect is given and taken.

It's NOT wrong,it's just that they're so caught up in their own dogma that they don't have the tolerance to bear a bit of criticism. If their beliefs are so strong they should be able to withstand a bit of humour at their expense. In response to Kitten,The Bible states "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live",seems pretty categorical to me!

Not as much a matter of wrong as being sad and counterproductive. I believe you are capable of finding ways to improve life rather than mock it. Does this make you proud of yourself? Does it give you a feeling of acccomplishment and satisfaction? Making others feel bad is overrated.
