yes...spent 5 years on antidepressants that made me VERY sick. I trusted the doctors and when the side effects of one med make me sicker than the depression/anxiety, I started to question my doctor...which he didn't like. I asked him why he didn't tell me about how difficult coming off the med was going to be or how bad the side effects were...he said...don't believe what you read on the internet, it's fake, it's made up. THEN, I told him I wanted to try something natural to treat my depression/anxiety. He said NO!!! You will suffer from depression/anxiety for the rest of your life and be on meds...just get used to it. That was the last time I ever saw the moron.
Read, research...be your own advocate. NO ONE other than YOU cares for your health. :)
I went to an herb shop wanting to get on SAMe and they said they'd had better luck with this - Nature's Sunshine Mood Elevator (concentrated) so I tried it...3 days later, I felt rockin' fantastic and NO SIDE EFFECTS.
The more I read and the more I learned, for my case...I knew poor nutrition was my connection as well as a hormone imbalance...causing the depression/anxiety. I take supplements and eat mostly fruits and veggies...cutting out dairy and 90 percent of the crap. MY DEPRESSION LEFT!
If you want to talk to others...I'd suggest looking at www.curezone.com in the depression/anxiety forum...there are posts about alternative healing.
Oh....and something I found out...antidepressants suck several vitamins from you...the same ones you are low in to make you depressed/anxious in the first place...does that make sense??? So you can never get ahead...but doctors dont' tell you because they dont' know....I mean, afterall...who are they learning about the drugs from????? A SALESPERSON!!!
If your doc lets you off the med...I will be shocked. If you aren't sick, he makes no money!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!! :) Good luck! Trust your gut...people do it every day...and we're all healthy and doing just fantastic, thank you very much!!

I took Zoloft for a while. And I also stopped taking it by myself after about 6 months of being on it and I feel fine. My doctor told me to never stop cold turkey because I would experience some horrible side effects but I did not experience anything at all. I feel great. The Zoloft really helped me though. I am glad that I got on it and that my doctor was able to help me because honestly I felt like I was freaking out. I couldn't explain what was happening to me or how I felt. I just felt like I was going nuts plus I couldn't eat... so maybe you should give it a chance. Plus Zoloft is not habit forming. Good Luck.

You should never stop taking any of this type of medication without the supervision of your medical provider. Stopping then on your own can cause severe psychosis and even withdrawal symptoms that can include seizures. It normally takes a few weeks, 4-6 before you will start to feel the effects of this this type of medication, yopu should have been told that by the prescribing physician before taking the medication. Depression and anxiety can be very rarely taken of without professional help, both conditions are very treatable as I speak from personal experience. The medication alone does not usually take care of the problem without some sort of psychotherapy, psychiatrist or psychologist. There is nothing embarassing about seekin therapy as it has done wonders for me.

I have been on every medication for anxiety and such. And I can tell you that zoloft is not good for that. But, every person is different. You have to give it more than 4 days. Anxiety may be temporary in some people if there is something in your life causing it. Some people are born with it, and have to learn how to handle it AND maybe supplement it with medication.
Did you go to a regular family doctor? If so, that really isn't a good idea. You need to go to a psychiatrist that is trained in medications and chemicals in the brain. They will know better.
P.S. Paxil is tough - don't go there!

Yes, my wife had a serious side affect with Zoloft and it caused her a great deal of troubles, her brother had the same negative reaction to it. Their depression got much worse and it nearly produced a hospital situation. They took about 4 weeks to get it out of their system. They are both doing much better now without any depression pills.

Follow your gut. You know your body better than anyone else on earth. NO one else will care what you do to your body except you.
For more info on Zoloft, read this. I doubt your doctor told you any of it.
