Fetal pain, though effective at possibly jolting a hardened heart awake, is secondary to the real issue. Pro-lifers shouldn't put all their eggs into the "fetal pain" basket. There are more important issues to argue & settle.
A human is a human no matter at what stage of development he/she is--whether one celled, two celled, zygote, embryo, fetus, whether in the test tube, the fallopian tube or attached in the uterus. This is a scientific FACT. That *this* is disputed by those who would call themselves honest scientists is the travesty.
Pre-born have their worth in the fact that they have been created both body & soul by the Almighty Creator, and are redeemed both body & soul by the Redeemer, Jesus Christ--whether "wanted" by any human or not.

Can a fetus feel pain?
Overview:
The short answer is maybe. At an advanced stage during pregnancy, a fetus may become capable of feeling pain. But, there appears to be no consensus among experts about whether this happens and at what point in the pregnancy the sensation of pain starts:
bullet Many physicians and researchers of fetal development believe that synaptic connections within the fetus' brain are necessary to perceive pain. These are not formed until the third trimester, when fewer than 1% of all pregnancy terminations are done. For example, researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, CA wrote that babies born before 30 weeks’ gestation lack "functional pain perception." They suggested that this is one indicator that "fetal perception of pain is unlikely before the third trimester." 17
bullet Some mental and medical professionals suggest that a fetus cannot feel pain, no matter how far developed. For example, Stuart Derbyshire, a psychologist at the University of Birmingham, UK, is an expert specializing in how the brain feels pain. He wrote that there is "good evidence that fetuses cannot experience pain." According to World Science, he argues that the complex medical processes necessary for the experience of pain cannot begin until the jolt of life outside the womb kick starts them. Thus, a fetus -- no matter how advanced in development -- cannot feel pain. The presence of pain in newborns is not a sign that a fetus at the same gestational age can feel pain. World Science comments:
"The brain circuitry for processing pain seems to be complete by 26 weeks' gestation, he wrote. But true pain requires not only development of the brain but also development of the mind to accommodate the subjectivity of pain."
"This mental development occurs only outside the womb, he added, through the baby’s actions and interactions with caregivers. The chemical environment in the uterus encourages sleep and suppresses higher-level brain activity necessary for pain perception, wrote Derbyshire, who uses brain scans frequently in his research." 18
bullet Others, mostly pro-life advocates, believe that a fetus as early as 7 weeks after conception can feel pain. Thus, they believe that a fetus can feel pain part way through the first trimester, when most abortions are actually performed

A negative reaction (if this is even correct) is not evidence of sentience, especially when the thing you're looking at hardly even has a brain.
I find it somewhat amusing that the religious are the first to say that a fetus can feel pain but are *also* the first to claim that it's perfectly alright to lop off the tip of newborn males' ding dongs because it's the most painless time to do it. (For religious reasons, of course. I see no point in mutiliation.)

Yeah I'm wondering what the fetus is thinking when mom uses drugs to pop out more than one egg that all get fertilized and result in mulitiple high-risk pregnancies and birth, all because of a selfish desire to have babies at any cost, and the chance that a few babies would be born premature, or even not be born at all.
Isn't it strange I don't hear fundamentalists not speaking out against THAT ridiculousness? Some of them are a few who actually do this too... hmm....

I agree with you 100%! Life begins at conception! And murder is murder, no matter what age or time in your life. If you don't want to have a baby, practice abstinence. It's a safe bet.
